Week Eight

We have had another cracking weekend of football and the table for Golden Goals have been thrown in the air once again. 
DANIEL GOODSON is at the top this weekend for the very first time this season and he becomes our sixth person to do so. Daniel’s combination of  teams picked him up a total of  16 goals over the week with eight coming from the weekend. His goals came from Manchester City 1, Middlesbrough 3 and Rangers 4 and he is  just two goal clear of MICK LIDDLE who moves up to second place. 

At the other end, JOHN NICHOLLS is in his seventh weekend at number 119 as his combination picked him up a total of 11 goals for the week. At the weekend they came from Arsenal 5, Bolton 2 and  Newcastle 2 which is his highest score of the season.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
All but one of us picked up some more midweek goals with CARRIE-ANNE WRIGHT picking up the most with eleven goals. They came from Chelsea and Manchester City with four goals each while Manchester United picking her up three more. This has now given Carrie-Anne a total of 15 midweek goals. This week we once again have had a change around for the race for the cash. CRAIG EVANS is in the lead this week after picking up ten more goals from his teams of Hearts, Manchester City and Middlesbrough. Craig has moved up from two last week with a new total of 34 goals. In joint second place both with 31 goals we have MICK LIDDLE and up from three DANIEL GOODSON. BARBARA BARNES (2) is once again still in third place but has been joined with TONY KING down from one both on 29 goals. In fourth place place is TOM MACDONALD on 28 goals as he moves down from three while in fifth place on 26 we still have CHRIS SETFORD. There then follows six people all on 25 goals.

We had three winners this weekend to take a share  of the cash prize money of £5 winning on our top score of the season with 12 goals each. All three are first time winners for this season and we have now had a total of twelve winners.Our winners are DANNY HARRINGTON, CHRIS SETFORD and DAVE WOOD. 
Danny as been with the competition for for a while now  but this weekend we see Danny at his highest position in 18th place. He’s combination has managed to score goals every week. His best team is Rangers.
Chris has been with Golden Goals for a few more seasons than Dan but Chris has had just one blank score sheet and that was at week one. This is also his highest position to date and Rangers is also his best team.
Dave is the longest serving player out of  this weeks winners and again this is his highest position. Dave has also picked up one blank score sheet from week one and like the others, Rangers are his best team to date.Our winners teams are

WEEKEND RESULTS 
All of us once again managed to pick up some more goals this weekend but our weekend average score came in at 6 goals each down from seven last weekend. The reason for another high score is that only nine of our teams failed to pick up any goals this weekend with another five teams that had no game this weekend.The highest score that we had over the weekend came from the English Premiership where ARSENAL picked up their highest score of the season winning 5-2 away to Leicester City. Arsenal are now on a total of 12 goals.Arsenal have been with the competition for thirty-one seasons and they started in our second season finishing on a total of 75 goals. In that season of 1984/85, the Gunners became our 27th voted English team but we had to wait till the season of 2002/03 before they picked up their highest score of 103 goals.Last season they ended on a grand total of 87 goals. Over the season’s they have netted a total of 2507 goals which gives them an average score of 80 goals per season to date. They have a total of 35 votes this season. 

PREMIERSHIP
We have the top five teams here this weekend with MANCHESTER UNITED moving into the top position for the first time this season as they win 3-0 at home to Sunderland. United are doing very well of late and with another three goals to their goals tally, they are on 15 goals this weekend. They have scored three goals each in their last four games. MANCHESTER CITY drop down to second place as they get beaten again by a London team, TOTTENHAM. They lost 4-1 away and although they still keep their 100% goals scoring record going. They are now on 17 goals. Tottenham picked up their highest score of the season which moved them up into fifth place. Tottenham are now on 10 goals. WEST HAM are still in third place as they drew 2-2 at home to NORWICH. The Hammers are on 16 goals and still have their 100% scoring record after eight games. Norwich are on also on 16 goals. The other team in the top flight is Arsenal. They are now on fourth place after their big win. LIVERPOOL picked up their biggest win of the season with a 3-2 home win over Aston Villa. Liverpool are now on 8 goals. CHELSEA drew 2-2 away to NEWCASTLE to take their goals total to 15 while Newcastle are on 9 goals. WATFORD picked up their 5th blank score sheet of the season as they go down 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace. 

CHAMPIONSHIP
We have just the top two teams here this weekend with BRIGHTON still on top as they drew 2-2 away to BOLTON.  Brighton are now on 15 goals while Bolton are on 6 goals. MDDLESBROUGH are second still as they win 3-0 at home to LEEDS. Brough are now on 25 goals after netting six goals this week while Leeds picked up blank number three.HULL comes next in fourth place as they drew 1-1 at home to Blackburn and that was their goal number 16. CARDIFF follow them as they win 2-1 at home to CHARLTON. Cardiff are on 15  goals while Charlton hit goal number 18. BRENTFORD are on 12 goals but lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday while BURNLEY also lost 2-1 at home to Reading to pick up goal number 12. It’s 21 for IPSWICH as they drew 2-2 at home to BRISTOL CITY. City are now on 12 goals. DERBY picked up their biggest win of the season with a 3-1 away win over MK DONS. Derby are now on 11 while the Dons hit goal number twelve. PRESTON drew 1-1 at home to WOLVES and are on 12 goals while after a two game dry spell, Wolves hit goal number thirteen. 

LEAGUE ONE
BURTON ALBION are still top here as they  win 2-1 away to CHESTERFIELD. Both Burton and Chesterfiled are both now on 14 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED have moved up to sixth place as they win 3-1 at home to Doncaster. United are now on 18 goals. PETERBOROUGH have scored in all of their last ten games as they win 2-0 away to Bradford. Borough are now on 17 goals. After a two game dry spell, PORT VALE are now on 12 goals as they win 2-1 away to Fleetwood. MILLWALL picked up another three goals this season as they win 3-1 at home to Rochdale. Millwall are on 13 goals. WIGAN are on 13 goals as they drew 1-1 away to Oldham. We are still waiting for that big score from BLACKPOOL but they lost 2-0 away to Shrewsbury to pick up blank number five. Another two goals for SOUTHEND now puts them on a total of 9 goals as they win 2-1 at home to SCUNTHORPE. Scunthorpe hit goal number nine. SWINDON are on 15 goals as they lost 2-1 at home to Colchester. 

LEAGUE TWO
We still have the top four teams here with PORTSMOUTH moving to the top as they win 2-1 away to Birstol Rovers. Portsmouth are now on 19 goals. WYCOMBE have moved up to second place as they win 2-0 away to EXETER. Wycombe are on 13 goals while Exeter picked up their third blank of the season. LEYTON ORIENT fall down to third place as they drew 1-1 away to Northampton. Orient are now on 17 goals. PLYMOUTH have moved down to fourth place as they drew 0-0 away to Mansfield to pick up their very first blank after a run of nine games. LUTON are on 18 goals as they win 2-0 against AFC Wimbledon. STEVENAGE picked up their third blank of the season as they lost 1-0 away to Cambridge United. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES
In the Premiership CELTIC are still in second place as they could only draw 0-0 at home to third place HEARTS. Celtic picked up their first blank of the season while Heatrs picked up their second. ABERDEEN remained top after they lost their first league game 2-1 away to Inverness. Aberdeen are now on 16 goals.In the Championship RANGERS remained top here again with eight wins out of eight and now nine points in front of Falkirk in second place as they win 4-0 away to Morton. Rangers are still our best team with 37 goals after eleven games keeping their 100% goals record intact.  HIBERNIAN are in fourth place on 13 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to St Mirren. In the lower Leagues, STENHOUSEMUIR lost 2-0 away to Albion to pick up their 3rd blank of the season and now two games in a row. CLYDE drew 1-1 at home to BERWICK to pick up goal number ten and 14 for Berwick. QUEENS PARK won 2-1 away to Stirling and are now on 14 goals.

Our worst team this week is still WATFORD as they have picked up five blank score sheets out of eight games played. They have scored 3 goals in their last four games played.  

Our Best team this weekend is still RANGERS after scoring in all of their eleven League/Cup games played they are on a total of 37 goals which is an average of three goals per game.

Our highest scoring team in our 33rd Season is from the Scottish Premiership CELTIC as they win 6-0 at home to Dundee in a league game in week seven.

We still have just  teams left that still have a 100% scoring record. They are MANCHESTER CITY, WEST HAM, and and RANGERS
