Easter Monday Results

We all hope that you had a lovely Easter Holiday from Golden Goals.

From the Easter Monday games the highest score came from the English League One where SCUNTHORPE picked up their highest score of the season with a 6-0 home thrashing to SWINDON. Scunthorpe are now on a total of 55 goals while Swindon picked up their 11th blank of the season and now just one goal in their last three games.
Staying in League One, BLACKPOOL are now on 37 goals as they win 1-0 away to Doncaster while MILLWALL won 2-0 at home to BURTON ALBION to take their goals tally to 65 while Burton picked up their 11th blank score sheet and now two in a row. CHESTERFIELD lost 1-0 away to Oldham and that was their 15th blank of the season and they have also now not scored in their last two games. PORT VALE also picked up their 15th blank of the season as they lost 1-0 at home to Barnsley. It’s 66 for WIGAN as they win 1-0 at home to Rochdale.
In League Two LUTON are on 58 goals but they lost 2-1 away to Barnet. EXETER are now on 66 goals as they win 2-0 away to Crawley. Exeter have now scored in all of their last nine games. Week Thirty-Four

RICHARD WILLIAMS has remained top once again this weekend and this is his Sixth weekend in a row and 13th  over the season. Richard’s combination picked him up a total of four goals over the weekend. All of the four goals came from Rangers as Hibernian and Manchester City had no games over the weekend. BOB SOPER still finds himself in second place again this weekend  and still three goals behind Richard. Bob’s teams also picked him up a total of four goals for the week from Rangers as Arsenal and Manchester City had no games.

At the other end, Steptoe & Son are no longer at number 119 as JOHN NICHOLLS moves back down to the foot of the table after his combination had no games all week. John who has been at 118 for the last nine weeks, finds himself back at 119 for his twenty-fourth week this season. His teams are Arsenal, Bolton and Newcastle.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Only twenty-six of us picked up some more midweek goals this week but non of the top five picked up any goals.
The highest score this week was four goals and we had five players who picked them up from Portsmouth and Wigan.
So the race to the £40 Midweek Jackpot remains the same as last weeks with DANIEL GOODSON still four goals in front on a total of 81 goals. In joint second place this week we still have JOHN DAVIES, and JAMES HUNTER both on a total of 77 goals. In third place we have CRAIG EVANS, TONY KING,  MICK LIDDLE and CHRIS SETFORD all on 73 goals. In fourth place we have TOM MACDONALD and RICHARD WILLIAMS both on 72 goals. In fifth place we still have ADRIAN BEW on a total of 71 goals.

Now we had no cash to win this weekend as only ten of our teams played over the weekend. So it is  a shame that STEVE CADWELL picked up the highest score with just six goals from his combination. They came from Berwick Rangers 2 and Rangers 4. His third team is Leyton Orient. Steve moved up from 70th Place to 51.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We have had a really funny Easter fixture this year as usually this is a busy period for me with games over the weekend and Bank holiday Monday, but due to the Internationals being played only a hand full of our teams actually played this weekend and all on the Saturday. The highest score that we had, from just ten of our teams is four goals and they all went to Sottish RANGERS. They become our very first team, this season, to pick up 100 goals and they won that against QUEEN OF THE SOUTH 4-3 at home. This is their 15th season of scoring 100 or more goals in the thirty-two seasons that they have been in. Last season they picked up just 87 goals. Over the thirty-two appearances with Golden Goals they have netted a total of 3119 goals which gives them an average score of 97 goals per season to date. Congratulations to the twenty-one players who have picked them as part of their combinations this season and well done to the six people who voted for them in our poll. Queen of the South are now on a total of 41 goals.

LEAGUE ONE
BURTON ALBION failed to score any goals against Oldham at home and the 0-0 draw means that they have now picked up a total of ten blank score sheets to date. MILLWALL also picked up their 10th blank score sheet as they lost 1-0 away to Bradford. CHESTERFIELD drew 0-0 at home to Fleetwood Town and that was their 14th blank score sheet of the season. So no goals from our English teams this weekend.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES
We had better luck with our Scottish teams as the seven teams that did play, each and every one of them picked up some goals. We already know about Rangers and Queen of South but also in the Championship FALKIRK lost 2-1 at home to Livingstone. Falkirk picked up their 62nd goal of the season.
In the lower leagues, STENHOUSEMUIR finally won 2-1 at home to Forfar and that now gives them a total of 44 goals. BERWICK are on 43 goals as they win 2-0 at home against Elgin. CLYDE are now on 46 goals as they lost 2-1 at home to Arbroath. It’s 43 for QUEENS PARK as they drew 1-1 away to East Fife.

OUR BEST THREE TEAMS ARE THIS WEEKEND

RANGERS (100) CELTIC (86) MANCHESTER CITY (78) Total of 264 goals

OUR WORST THREE TEAMS ARE

NEWCASTLE (33) WATFORD (35) BLACKPOOL (36) Total of 104 goals

BLACKPOOL have picked up the most number of blank score sheets this season with a total of nineteen out of forty-one games played.

The highest scoring team in our 33rd Season is CELTIC from the Scottish Premiership, when they beat Hamilton
8-1 at home in a midweek league game in week twenty-five.

This Seasons First 100

The Big News from the Easter Saturday Games is that RANGERS are our very first team in our 33rd Season to reach 100 goals as they win 4-3 at home to QUEEN OF THE SOUTH in the Scottish Championship.
Ranger’s biggest score came in our 1992/93 Season with 126 goals. Now Rangers not only do they have to beat their own record score but could they also beat Manchester’s City record score of 137 goals from our 2013/14 Season? Only time will tell, as our season is quickly coming to the end. Queen of the South are now on a total of 41 goals and they have scored a total of twelve goals in their last four games.

Good Friday Goals

We had fourteen of our Golden Goals teams that played on Good Friday and what a ‘Good Friday’ it was as all but two of the teams managed to score some goals.
The highest scores of the day came from two of our teams Wigan from League One and Portsmouth from League Two.
So from League One, WIGAN picked up the highest score with a 4-1 away to SWINDON. That score took Wigan’s goal tally to 65 while Swindon hit goal number 58. Also, PETERBOROUGH won 3-1 at home against Coventry and they are now on 78 goals while SHEFFIELD UNITED won 3-2 at home to Crewe to take their goals total to 60. SCUNTHORPE picked up their 13th blank score sheet of the season as they drew 0-0 away to Barnsley. BLACKPOOL have scored again at home in their 1-1 draw against Bury. Blackpool are now on 36 goals. It’s 51 goals for SOUTHEND now as they lost 4-1 away to Rochdale after going a goal up. PORT VALE drew 1-1 away to Shrewsbury to pick up their 50th goal of the season.
In League Two, PORTSMOUTH won 4-0 at home to Nott’s County and they are now on 73 goals. It’s 54 goals for PLYMOUTH now as they win 2-0 away to Morecombe. Clyde Now Second

In the Scottish League Two CLYDE won their sixteenth league game out of thirty played with a 2-1 home win against Anna Athletic. The three points moves them up into second place and a point behind leaders East Fife.
Clyde are in their second season with Golden Goals and the only time that we have had Clyde was back in our 2004/05 Season where they finished on a score of 41 goals. The good news to our one Clyde vote this season is that they have beaten the score and they are now on a total of 45 goals with ten coming from their last four games. With a grand total of 86 goals over the two seasons, this gives them an average season of 43 goals per season to date.

Week Thirty-Three

RICHARD WILLIAMS has remained top once again this weekend and this is his twelfth weekend at the top.  Richard’s combination picked him up a total of just five goals over the week. One of them came from the weekend from Hibernian, Manchester City failed to score and Rangers had no game over the weekend. BOB SOPER finds himself in second place once again this weekend  now three goals behind Richard. Bob’s teams picked him up a total of four goals for the week from Arsenal, Manchester City and Rangers.

At the other end, it’s still STEPTOE & SON at number 119 for their ninth weekend as their combination picked  them up twelve goals for the week. But even after a very good week for goals, they still have the lowest score to date. Their teams are Queens Park, Queens Park Rangers and Queen of the South.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Only forty-seven of us picked up some more midweek goals this week as the race for the cash is near the end. The highest score this week went to RICHARD WILLIAMS with a total of four goals. Richard picked up his goals from Hibernian and Rangers with two goals each. His third team Manchester City had no game Richard now has a total of 72 midweek goals.
The race to the £40 Midweek Jackpot is looking like this with DANIEL GOODSON now four goals in front this week as he picks up three goals. Two came from Rangers and one from Middlesbrough. He is now on a total of 81 goals and just 19 goals away from that lovely cash. Daniel’s other team is Manchester city who had no game. In joint second place this week we still have JOHN DAVIES, and JAMES HUNTER both on a new total of 77 midweek goals. In third place we have four players with CRAIG EVANS remaining there with MICK LIDDLE up from four while up from fifth place last week we have TONY KING and CHRIS SETFORD all on 73 goals. In fourth place up from five is TOM MACDONALD and back in the race, RICHARD WILLIAMS both on 72 goals. In fifth place we still have ADRIAN BEW now on a total of 71 goals.

Emma is in her second season with the competition and last season Emma finished just outside of the winning frame by a single goal with a total of 270 goals in 26th place. But She did have a weekend win all to herself. This season the nine goals has taken her back up to 87th place, but her best was in week three when she went to 47th place. Emma has picked up a total of four blank score sheets and her best team is Celtic.
Jamie (Steptoe) is in his 13th Season with Golden Goals which was our 21st Season and in his very first season of 2003/04,  Jamie finished in 77th place out of 90 entries on a total of 235 goals. Jamie has also had four blank score sheets and his best team is Queens Park Rangers netting him 51 goals. Our winners combinations are

Emma  BRISTOL CITY 6, CELTIC 1, CHELSEA 2

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had two teams that picked up the highest score of the weekend and for themselves. They are from the English Championship BRISTOL CITY who beat BOLTON 6-0 at home. Hibernian Back On Target

We have not had any big scores this week as of yet after ten of our Golden Goals have already played. But last night we had two of our teams in action and both scored some goals.
In League Two, WYCOMBE drew 1-1 away to Accrington Stanley and the single goal takes their goals tally to 46. Wycombe are now in the play-off zone in 7th place.

In Scotland we had the quarter-final replay in the WILLIAM HILL CUP between HIBERNIAN and Inverness CT. In their first meeting they drew 1-1 and after Hibs lost in the final of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday, they bounced back and won the round 2-1 away. Hibs are now on a total of 63 goals and another chance to win some silver ware this season.

Newcastle in Trouble

So let’s catch up on the midweek results starting from the Monday night’s game between Leicester City and NEWCASTLE. Well it was not Newcastle’s night as the Champions Leicester won 1-0 at home. That was Newcastle’s 15th blank score sheet of the season and they have now lost seventeen of their twenty-nine league games played.
Last night in the Championship, BRIGHTON after a two games without a goal, beat Reading 1-0 at home. That was Brighton’s 52nd goal of the season. In League One, BLACKPOOL lost 1-0 away to Oldham and that was their 19th blank of the season and now they have had three games without a single goal. In fact they have scored just three goals in their last seven games.
In Scotland, QUEEN OF THE SOUTH lost 3-2 away to Morton to take their goals total to 32 while QUEENS PARK lost 3-1 at home to Anna to pick up their 40th goal of the season.

Week Thirty-Two

RICHARD WILLIAMS has remained top once again this weekend and this is his eleventh weekend at the top.  Richard’s combination picked him up a total of just four goals over the week. One of them came from the weekend from Hibernian, Manchester City failed to score and Rangers had no game over the weekend. BOB SOPER finds himself in second place this weekend  just two goals behind Richard. Bob’s teams also picked him up a total of eight goals for the week from Arsenal, Manchester City and Rangers.

At the other end, it’s still STEPTOE & SON at number 119 for his eighth weekend as his combination picked  him up seven goals for the week. His teams are Queens Park, Queens Park Rangers and Queen of the South.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Just over half of us picked up some more midweek goals this week and we had another ten players to reach that magic score 50 or more goals bringing the total up to 86 this week.
The highest score this week went to JAMIE WOOD with a total of ten goals. Jamie picked up his goals from Arsenal four and three each from Portsmouth and Rangers. Jamie now has a total of 62 midweek goals.
The race to the £40 Midweek Jackpot is looking like this with DANIEL GOODSON still three goals in front this week as he picks up three goals from Rangers. Middlesbrough failed to score. He is now on a total of 78 goals. Daniel’s other team is Manchester city who had no game. In joint second place this week we still have JOHN DAVIES, but JAMES HUNTER moves back up to second place from three . Both are on a total of 75 midweek goals. In third place down from two is CRAIG EVANS still on 72 goals. In fourth place on 71 goals we still have MICK LIDDLE. In joint fifth place we have four players this week. They are ADRIAN BEW down from three with TONY KING, TOM MACDONALD and CHRIS SETFORD moving into the race. All four are on a total of 70 goals. In sixth place down from five is JAMES WISE on 69 goals.

We have now had a total of 45 winners this season as last season’s Champion TOBY BICKNELL wins on a score of 8 goals. Believe it or not, this is his best score of the season although he has picked up eight goals at the weekend in two other weekends but won no cash.
Our Champion last season finished on a score of 311 goals which is our 12th best Champion’s score. He did very well in his very first season with Golden Goals by finishing eight goals in front of Darren Davidson in second place.
