Week Eight

It’s Week Eight and we had our seventh weekend winner of the season with the highest score for Season 34 with 15 goals and the £6 cash prize money went to ELLIE HOLDSWORTH.
Ellie is in her very first season with Golden Goals and she becomes our second lady winner to date. Although this is her highest score of the season she has had just one blank score sheet as we see Ellie back in the top fifty. This is her highest position to date with her lowest being 88th in week three. We would like to congratulate Ellie and welcome her to the competition. Her teams are

CELTIC 6, LIVERPOOL 5, MANCHESTER UNITED 4

The highest number of goals to be picked up over midweek was a mega 13 goals and they went to BRUCE SELF.  Bruce has now taken his midweek goals total to 31. His goals came from Manchester United 3, Rangers 5 and Tottenham 5. Also the good news is that we all picked up some goals this week.
This week we have had a complete change in the race for the cash. DAVID SMITHERS has now taken up the lead with a total of 45 goals. In second place both on 41 goals we have CHRIS SETFORD who moves down one but up from five of last week we have DOUG MORBEY to join him. In third place down from one is  JOHN FILTNESS  and MANGO who moves up from four both are now on a total of 40 goals. In fourth place all on 39 goals we have TONY KING and JAMIE WOOD both down from three last week with TONY GUY (2) who comes straight in. As you can already see that the midweek race is now spreading out with the leader ahead by four clear goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS
The average score for this weekend shot up- from four of last weekend to 8 goals this weekend. The reason for this is that we all once again all picked up some goals and some of our teams had a goal feast.
Out of our fifty-four teams that we have this season, only one team had no game and just seven had a blank score sheet and some of them picked up their very first blank score sheet of the season.
The highest score over the weekend was six goals and they came from the Scottish Premiership where CELTIC won 6-1 at home to KILMARNOCK. With their highest score of the season Celtic are now on a total of 30 goals and they are just one of our teams still with a 100% scoring record this weekend.
Celtic are just one of  four  teams that have had a 100% appearances in the competition and they have done very well over the years. Celtic was our second voted Scottish team and in our very first season of 19983/84 they finished on a total of 116 goals. We had to wait till 2000/01 Season when they picked up their highest score of 122 goals. Last season they finished on 108 goals. Celtic have netted 100 or more goals in the last six seasons in a row which is a Golden Goals record and we could be seeing them making it number seven. Over the 34 seasons they have netted a total of 3199 goals which gives them an average score of 94 goals per season which is another Golden Goals record. They have a total of 69 votes this season.
