Week Eight

Here in Week Eight of the competition we had another two winners to share this weekends jackpot of £5. They are LUCIFER (John Wood) and CHRIS SETFORD which now gives us a total of ten players that have won this season. Our winners won on a total of just 7 goals each which is the lowest to win on so far. Both Chris and Lucifer have been with Golden Goals for a long time now and I thank them for their support over the years. Chris finished in 38th place last season and with a total of 265 goals. He also had a share in the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot. This season Chris has picked up two blank score sheets at the weekend and this weekend’s score is his personal best. This is also his highest position to date. His best team is Rangers. Lucifer (John Wood) finished in 112th place with a total of 194 goals last season. This season he has picked up just one blank score sheet over the season.  This is also his highest amount of goals although it’s his third time this season for picking up seven goals. 8th is the highest that Ziggy has been and that was in Week One. His best team is Bournemouth. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT 

All but 3 players have picked up some midweek goals this week with five picking up the highest score with eleven goals each. The race for the cash has changed from last week again. In the lead this week we still have GEOFF CARTHY now with a total of 29 goals. In second place we still have PETER PORTER now with a total of 28 goals. In third place RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion, has remained there with BOB SOPER joining him from four last week. Both are on a total of 27 goals. In fourth place we still have COLIN WEBB but he is now joined with JOHN FILTNESS both with a total of 26 goals. In fifth place we have LUCIFER down from four and with SCOTT THOMSON (1), and EMMA SAWYER both up from sixth place. ANN WELLARD joins them and they are all on a total of 24 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS 

We had all but five of our teams in action this weekend and out of them twelve of them failed to score any goals. Once again is was not a very high scoring weekend as this weekend as the average score remained at  just 4 goals this weekend. The Highest score over the weekend was four goals again and they came from SUTTON UNITED. They won 4-0 at home to CARLISLE. That is Sutons biggest result of the season and that has taken their goal tally up to 12. Carlisle picked up their fourth blank of the season. 

PREMIER LEAGUE 

LIVERPOOL are now top of the league after they drew 3-3 away to BRENTFORD. Liverpool have extended their goal run to seven games and they now have a total of 18 goals. Brentford have had a great week for goals. They are now also on a total of 18 goals. MANCHESTER CITY have moved into second place after they beat CHELSEA 1-0 away. City are on a total of 18 goals while Chelsea picked up their first blank of the season after a goal run of six games and drop down to third place. MANCHESTER UNITED drop down to fourth place this week after they lost 1-0 at home to ASTON VILLA. United picked up their second blank score sheet and two in a row. Villa picked up goal number 16. WEST HAM won 2-1 away to Leeds and they are on a total of 14 goals. LEICESTER CITY picked up another two goals in their 2-2 draw at home to Burnley. Leicester are on 9 goals. WATFORD are also on 9 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle. Things have certainly changed for ARSENAL as they win 3-1 at home to London rivals TOTTENHAM. Arsenal are now on a total of 14 goals while Tottenham picked up goal number 6. WOLVES won 1-0 away to Southampton and they are on a total of 9 goals. 

CHAMPIONSHIP 

BOURNEMOUTH are still top here after they won 2-1 at home against Luton. Bournemouth are on 21 goals. Two points behind Bournemouth are now West Brom with FULHAM now in fourth place. They drew 1-1 away to Bristol City and they are on a total of 21 goals. After their cup win in midweek, PRESTON drew 0-0 away to Birmingham City. Preston have now had three blank score sheets. CARDIFF lost 5-1 away to Blackburn and they are on 12 goals after a two game dry spell for goals. BARNSLEY lost 1-0 away to Blackpool and that is their fifth blank and now two in a row. Its ten for NOTTINGHAM FOREST after they drew 1-1 at home to Millwall. READING won 1-0 at home to Middlesbrough and they are on 16 goals. SHEFFIELD UNITED won 1-0 at home to DERBY and they are on 16 goals while Derby, bottom of the league, picked up their fourth blank of the season. HULL are now second from bottom as they lost 2-0 away to Stoke. Hull have now had a total of seven blank score sheets and now just one goal in their last eight games. SWANSEA won 1-0 at home to Huddersfield and that is goal number 15 for them. 

LEAGUE ONE 

WIGAN are still top here this weekend after they won 2-0 at home against Cheltenham. Wigan are on 15 goals. SUNDERLAND are still in second place as they win 1-0 at home to BOLTON.  Sunderland are on a total of 20 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. Bolton picked up their sixth blank and now two games in a row without a goal. BURTON ALBION lost 2-1 at home to LINCOLN CITY and they are on 8 goals while Lincoln are on 14 goals. CHARLTON drew 2-2 at home to PORTSMOUTH and they are on 9 goals while Portsmouth are on 10. IPSWICH drew1-1 at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY and they on 12 goals to Wednesday’s 9. WYCOMBE lost 1-0 away to MK Dons and that is their third blank of the season. After two games with out a goal, OXFORD UNITED are now on 11 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to Gillingham. PLYMOUTH have extended their goal run to ten games this week as they win 2-1 at home to Doncaster. Plymouth are on a total of 19 goals. ROTHERHAM drew 1-1 at home to Crewe and they are on 12 goals. 

LEAGUE TWO 

The highest team that we have here is EXETER CITY now down to sixth place. They drew 1-1 away to Hartlepool and they are on a total of 12 goals. STEVENAGE drew 0-0 away to Harrogate and that is their third blank and now two in  a row. SALFORD CITY drew 2-2 at home to Northampton and they are now on a total of 12 goals. SCUNTHORPE are now second from bottom after they lost 1-0 at home to Port Vale. That is Scunthorpe's fifth blank of the season. SWINDON drew 0-0 at home to Colchester and that is their third blank score sheet. 

Our BEST three teams this week are 

KELTY HEARTS (25) CELTIC (23) HEARTS (22) Total of 70 goals 

Our WORST three teams are 

CRYSTAL PALACE (5) HULL (6) BARNSLEY (6) Total of 17 goals 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES  

In the Premiership, RANGERS are still top after they won 1-0 away to Dundee. Rangers are on a total of 19 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. HEARTS are still in third place after they win 3-0 at home to Livingston. Hearts are on a total of 22 goals. CELTIC drew 1-1 at home to Dundee Utd and they are on a total of 23 goals. After a two game dry spell for goals,  ABERDEEN lost 3-2 away to St Mirren and they are on a total of 9 goals. 

In League Two, KELTY HEARTS remain in top position as they win 1-0 at home to Stranraer.. Kelty are on a total of 25 goals and they have scored in all of their last eight games. STENHOUSEMUIR lost 2-1 at home to Elgin City and that is their 12th goal of the season. 

Our on-form team is PLYMOUTH after scoring in all of their last ten League/Cup games with a total of 19 goals. 

Our worst team this week are still HULL after they have picked up seven blank score sheets out of ten games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 39th Season are now BRENTFORD who won 7-0 at home to Oldham in the third round of the Carabao/League Cup in Week Eight. 

CHRIS BOLBERY is in his sixth consecutive weekend at the top and now seven weeks over the season. Chris picked up a total of nine goals for the week. He’s teams are Bournemouth, Celtic and Sunderland. Chris is just two goals in front of second place Guy Dowsett (2) who picked up a total of ten goals this week. Guy has Kelty Hearts, Liverpool and Rangers. 

At the other end at 113 we have ZIGGY (John Wood) again this weekend which is now his fourth weekend at the bottom. Ziggy has now been there the longest this season after picking up just one goal at the weekend. His combo is Crystal Palace, Scunthorpe and Stenhousemuir.
