Week Nine

Here we are with Week Nine of the competition we had no prize money this weekend due to the international games this week. So next weekend we will have our second Rollover of the season worth £10.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT 

RICK WOOD our 2007/08 Champion is still in the lead this week with a total of 27 goals. HAYLEY ADKINS stays in second place still with a total of 26 goals. In third place is still STEVE AYRES with NICK HORTON both on a total of 25 goals. In fourth place with 24 goals we have GUY DOWSETT (1). In fifth place we have,  MARK GREGORY, LOUIE HARRINGTON and TERENCE WARWICK all on a total of 23 goals. In sixth place we have PETER PORTER and BOB SOPER with 22 goals each. 

WEEKEND RESULTS 

We had just sixteen of our teams in action this weekend in which only three teams failed to score any goals. The highest score that we had was three goals and they came from PETERBOROUGH and SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY.  

LEAGUE ONE 

PLYMOUTH have knocked IPSWICH off the top of the table after they won 2-1 at home after going a goal down at half time. Plymouth are on a total of 18 goals and have extended their goal run to eight games. Ipswich picked up goal number 19 and they have also now scored in all of their last eight games. FOREST GREEN ROVERS lost 4-0 at home to Exeter City to pick up their 5th blank of the season. CHARLTON lost 3-1 away to Barnsley. With yet another single goal, Charlton are on 16 goals and a goal run of eight games. BRISTOL ROVERS lost 1-0 at home to Accrington and that is their 4th blank score sheet. After failing to score in their previous two games, PETERBOROUGH won 3-0 at home to Port Vale and they are now on a total of 19 goals. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have taken their goals tally to 25 as they win 3-1 at home against Wycombe. 

LEAGUE TWO 

The highest team that we have here are SALFORD CITY in fifth place. They won 2-1 away to SUTTON UTD and they are now on a total of 16 goals. Sutton are on a total of 13 goals. STOCKPORT COUNTY lost 2-1 away to Northampton and they are on a total of 13 goals. BRADFORD CITY drew 2-2 at home against AFC WIMBLEDON. Bradford have taken their goals total to 19 while Wimbledon are on 11 goals. MANSFIELD TOWN won 2-1 away to Crewe and they are on a total of 17 goals. CRAWLEY TOWN lost 4-1 away to Doncaster and that is goal number 12 for them. SWINDON TOWN won 2-1 away to Grimsby and they are on a total of 12 goals. GILLINGHAM drew 0-0 away to Hartlepool and that is blank number nine for them and now two in a row.

Our WORST three teams are

Our best performing team are now NORWICH as they have now scored in all of their last eleven league/cup games played. They have a total of 20 goals. That gives them an average score of 1.6 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM this weekend as they have picked up nine blank score sheets out of twelve League/Cup games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five. 

GRANT PHILLIPS has moved into the lead this weekend with his teams of  Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday and Tottenham. Grant becomes our fourth player to reach number one this our 40th Season. He picked up three goals from Sheffield Wednesday. Mark Gregory is now in second place on goal difference as none of his teams were in action this week. Mark’s teams are Celtic, Manchester City and Norwich.  

At the other end at 108 we still have MANDY WRIGHT who has now been there for seven consecutive weeks. Mandy’s teams were not in action this week. Her teams are Bournemouth, Swansea and West Ham.

With so many of us not having any of our teams in action this week, those that did manage to have a team playing and scored has changed the table just a bit this weekend.

Stenhousemuir in Second Place

In the Scottish League Two, STENHOUSEMUIR went a goal down in the first half but came back to win 2-1 away to East Fife. Stenhousemuir are now up to second place in the league and they are on a total of 20 goals. They have won three out of their last four league games.

Week Eight

Here we are with Week Eight of the competition and we had our third lady winner and it goes to SAM LEGHORN who won on a score of 12 goals, which is our second best score of the season. Sam is our eleventh winner of the season and has won the full £5 weekend cash prize money.

Sam started with us back in the 2019/20 Season on where she finished in the winning frame in 18th place with a total of 304 goals. Last season Sam finished in 46th place with 278 goals. This season Sam has picked up two blank score sheets at the weekend and this is the highest to date that Sam has been this season. Manchester City is her best team. Her winning teams are 

ARSENAL 3, MANCHESTER CITY 3, TOTTENHAM 6 

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

It was RICK WOOD our 2007/08 Champion who picked up the most number of goals in midweek with six. They came from Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday. His third team is Manchester City. The six goals has now taken Ricky in to the lead with a total of 27 goals. HAYLEY ADKINS drops down to second place still with a total of 26 goals. In third place is now STEVE AYRES with NICK HORTON both on a total of 25 goals. Down to fourth place with 24 goals we have GUY DOWSETT (1). In fifth place we now have,  MARK GREGORY, LOUIE HARRINGTON and TERENCE WARWICK all on a total of 23 goals. Down to sixth place we have PETER PORTER and BOB SOPER with 22 goals each. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had most of our teams back in action with eight that had no game over the weekend and another nine teams that failed to score any goals. Dispite that this weekends average score came in at 4 goals.

The highest score that we had was six goals and they came from LINCOLN CITY and TOTTENHAM. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

ARSENAL are back at the top of the table after they won 3-0 away to Brentford. Arsenal are now on a total of 17 goals and they have now scored in all of their first seven league games. In second place is MANCHESTER CITY who won 3-0 away to Wolves. City are now on a total of 23 goals and have kept their 100% scoring record going after seven games. NEWCASTLE drew 1-1 at home to BOURNEMOUTH and are on a total of 10 goals. Bournemouth are on 8 goals. TOTTENHAM scored their highest result of the season as they won 6-2 at home to LEICESTER CITY. Tottenham have taken their goals tally up to 18 goals and have also kept their 100% scoring record. Leicester are on 10 goals. EVERTON won 1-0 at home to WEST HAM and that is their 6th goal of the season while West Ham picked up their 4th blank of the season. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

SHEFFIELD UNITED are still top here after they won 2-0 away to Preston. United are on a total of 19 goals and have now scored in all of their last nine games. NORWICH are in second place as they drew 1-1 at home to WEST BROM. Norwich are on a total of 20 goals and they have extended their goal run to eleven games. West Brom are on 16 goals. BURNLEY won 2-1 at home against Bristol City and they are on a total of 18 goals and a goal run of eight games. HUDDERSFIELD won their second league game 1-0 at home to Cardiff. Huddersfield are on 10 goals. LUTON won 2-0 at home against Blackburn and they have taken their goals tally to 13 goals and a goal run of six games. MIDDLESBROUGH drew 0-0 at home to Rotherham and that is their 3rd blank of the season. SWANSEA picked up their biggest win of the season as they won 3-0 at home to Hull. Swansea are now on a total of 12 goals. WATFORD drew 2-2 at home to SUNDERLAND and thye are now on a total of 11 goals while Sunderland are on 16. READING won 1-0 away to Wigan and they are on a total of 11 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

IPSWICH are top here after they drew 2-2 away to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY. Ipswich have taken their goals tally to 18 and a goal run of seven games. Wednesday are on a total of 22. PETERBOROUGH picked up their 4th blank of the season after they lost 1-0 away to Bolton. LINCOLN CITY with their biggest result of the season won 6-3 away to BRISTOL ROVERS. Lincoln are now on a total of 19 goals while Rovers are now on a total of 13. DERBY won 2-1 at home against Wycombe and have taken their goals total to 12. CHARLTON picked up yet another single goal in their 1-1 away draw with Fleetwood. Charlton are on a total of 15 goals and a goal run of seven games. It’s 10 goals for FOREST GREEN as they lost 2-1 at home to Morecambe. OXFORD UTD lost 2-1 at home to MK DONS and they are on a total of 10 goals while MK Dons after a two game dry spell are now on a total of 12 goals. PLYMOUTH drew 2-2 away to Portsmouth and they have taken their goals tally to 16 and a goal run of seven games. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we have in this league is BRADFORD CITY in fifth place. They won 3-0 at home to Stevenage and they are now on a total of 17 goals. AFC WIMBLEDON lost 2-1 away to Carlisle and that is goal number 9 for them. CRAWLEY TOWN lost 1-0 away to Crewe and that is blank number five for them. It’s 10 goals for SWINDON as they win 1-0 away to Doncaster. It’s eight blank score sheets for GILLINGHAM as they lost 2-0 at home to MANSFIELD who are now on a total of 15 goals. SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership top of the table CELTIC after a goal run of seven games, have picked up their 1st blank of the season as they went down 2-0 away to St Mirren. RANGERS in second place won 2-1 at home to Dundee Utd. Rangers are on a total of 19 goals. HEARTS are now in third place after they won 3-0 away to Motherwell. Hearts who failed to score in their previous two games, are now on a total of 13 goals. HIBERNIAN won 3-1 at home to ABERDEEN. Hibs are now on a total of 19 goals while Aberdeen hit goal number 30 and a goal run of seven games.

In League One ALLOA won 2-1 at home to Montrose and they are on a total of 22 goals. KELTY HEARTS lost 2-1 away to Peterhead. Kelty are on a total of 7 goals.

In League Two BONNYRIGG ROSE lost 1-0 away to Dumbarton and thatis their 3rd blank of the season and now two in a row. They have now scored just one goal in their last four games. STENHOUSEMUIR drew 3-3 at home to Elgin City and they have now taken their goals tally to 18goals.

At the other end at 108 we still have MANDY WRIGHT who has now been there for six weeks. Mandy’s teams picked her up a total of 4 goals all coming from the weekend. Her teams are Bournemouth, Swansea and West Ham.

Not a very exciting week  for football but iut has changed the top ten.

Villa's First Win in Five

In the Premier League ASTON VILLA won 1-0 at home to Southampton and that is goal number 10 for them. FULHAM won 3-2 away to Nottingham Forest after going a goal down in the first half. Fulham are now on a total of 12 goals.

Six in a row for Norwich

In the Championship, NORWICH have now won six league games in a row as they win 3-2 at home to Bristol City. Norwich are now on a total of 19 goals and they have now scored in all of their last ten games. LUTON drew 2-2 at home against Coventry and they have taken their goals total to 11 goals. READING lost 3-0 at home to SUNDERLAND to pick up their 4th blank of the season. WEST BROM lost 3-2 at home against Birmingham and they are now on a total of 15 goals.

Football Resumes

As the country still mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II there has been no professional football games played up till now.

In the Championship top of the table SHEFFIELD UNITED won 1-0 away to SWANSEA. United are on a total of 17 goals and have extended their goal run to eight games. Swansea picked up their 3rd blank of the season. WATFORD lost 2-0 away to Blackburn and that is their 3rd blank of the season. HUDDERSFIELD lost 2-1 at home to Wigan and that is their 9th goal of the season after they have failed to score in their previous two games.  MIDDLESBROUGH lost 3-2 at home to Cardiff and they have taken their goals tally to 13 goals. BURNLEY drew 1-1 away to Preston and they are on a total of 16 goals. Burnley have now scored in all of their last seven games.

In League One, IPSWICH have remained top after they won 2-0 at home to BRISTOL ROVERS. Ipswich are on a total of 16 goals and a goal run of six games. Rovers picked up their 3rd blank of the season. CHARLTON drew 1-1 at home to FOREST GREEN and they picked up goal number 14 and a goal run of six games. Forest Green are on 9 goals. LINCOLN CITY are on 13 goals after they won 2-0 at home against DERBY. Derby picked up their 4th blank score sheet. MK DONS lost 2-0 at home to Bolton to pick up their 5th blank score sheet and now two in a row. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY won 3-0 away to Morecambe and they have taken their goals total up to 20 goals. Week Seven

Here we are with Week Seven of the competition and the very sad news that the Queen died on Thursday at the age of 96. In a mark of respect, the football fixtures for north and south of the country have all been cancelled this weekend and rightly so as the nation mourns. 

We here at Golden Goals would like to send our condolences to the royal family and thank the Queen Elizabeth II for her long service to the country. We will never see the likes of her again in our life time. The Queen's state funeral will be held on Monday 19 September at Westminster Abbey at 11.00 am.  We now have a new King, Charles III and we wish him all the very best in his new role in serving the country.

Week Six

Here we are with Week Six of the competition we had three winners to share the £5 Weekend Jackpot this weekend. That now brings our winners total up to ten players. Our winners are BARBARA BARNES (1), BRUCE SELF and STEVE STUBBS and they won on a total of 9 goals each.

Barbara started with Golden Goals back in the 2000/01 Season on where she finished in 85th place with a total of 232 goals. Last season she finished in 68th place with 256 goals combo 1 and 93rd place with 235 goals with combo 2. This season Barbara has picked up one blank score sheet and 62nd is her highest position to date in Week Two.

Bruce started with us back in the 2006/07 Season where he finished in the winning frame in 18th place with a total of 260 goals. He also picked up one shared weekend win. Last season he finished in 85th place with 241 goals. This season he has been as high as 19th place in Week Two.

Steve started with us way back just before the 1986/87 Season. In that season he finished in 90th place with a total of 209 goals. He did manage to pick up a shared weekend win. Last season he finished in the winning frame in 5th place with 325 goals. He also had one weekend win. This season we can see Steve in his highest position to date. Our winners teams are

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had another full fixture at the weekend and we had just four teams with no game over the weekend. We had another fifteen of our teams that failed to score any goals. We had a really crazy weekend last week but how it’s changed this weekend. Our average score fell down from thirteen goals last weekend to just 3 goals this weekend. So if your combination picked up more than that, then you have done very well again this weekend.

The Highest score over the weekend was 5 goals and they came from the Premier League BRIGHTON who won 5-2 at home against LEICESTER CITY.  With their biggest result of the season, Brighton are now taken their goals tally up to 14 goals and have a goal run of five games. Leicester are on a total of 8 goals. 

Brighton became our 73rd English team to join Golden Goals in the 1989/90 Season where they finished on a total of 62 goals. Their highest score came in the 2016/17 Season with a toatal of 86 goals. Last season they finished with 51 goals. This is their 16th Season with us and over the years they have now netted a total of 1007 goals. This now gives them an average score of 62 goals per season to date. They have just one vote this season. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table ARSENAL have lost their first league game of the season as they go down 3-1 away to MANCHESTER UNITED. Arsenal are on a total of 14 goals and have now scored in all of their six games played. United have now won all of their last four games and are now on a total of 8 goals. MANCHESTER CITY are in second place after they drew 1-1 away to ASTON VILLA. City are 1 point behind Arsenal as they take their goals total to 20 goals. Villa pick up goal number 9. LEEDS UTD are on a total of 13 goals after they lost 5-2 away to Brentford. CHELSEA beat London Rivals WEST HAM 2-1 at home. Chelsea are on 8 goals while West Ham are now on 3 goals. EVERTON drew 0-0 at home to LIVERPOOL in their local derby. Everton pick up their 2nd blank of the season while Liverpool after a goal run of five games, get their first. NEWCASTLE drew 0-0 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE. Both have picked up their 2nd blank score sheet of the season. BOURNEMOUTH won 3-2 away to Nottingham Forest. After a two game dry spell for goals, Bournemouth pick up their biggest result of the season and are now on a total of 7 goals. TOTTENHAM won 2-1 at home against FULHAM and are on a total of 12 goals and have now scored in all of their six games. Fulham are on a total of 9 goals.

SHEFFIELD UNITED are back at the top here after they won 2-0 away to Hull. United have taken their goals tally to 16 goals and have now scored in all of their last seven games. NORWICH are in second place after they picked up their biggest win of the season by winning 3-0 at home to Coventry. Norwich are now on a total of 16 goals and they have now scored in all of their last nine games. LUTON lost 2-1 at home to Wigan and they are on a total of 9 goals. WATFORD drew 1-1 away to Rotherham and they are on a total of 9 goals. SWANSEA are on 9 goals after they won 1-0 at home to QPR. HUDDERSFIELD lost 1-0 at home to Blackpool and they have now had a total of three blank score sheets and now two in a row. READING won 2-1 at home to Stoke and they have taken their goals total to 10. 

LEAGUE ONE

IPSWICH are back up to first place after they won 2-0 away to Accrington. Ipswich are now on a total of 14 goals and a goal run of five games. CHARLTON lost 3-1 away to Bolton and are on a total of 13 goals and a goal run of five games. BRISTOL ROVERS drew 2-2 at home to Morecambe and they are on a total of 10 goals. LINCOLN CITY lost 2-0 away to Cambridge Utd and that is their 3rd blank of the season. DERBY lost 3-2 at home to PLYMOUTH and they have taken their goals tally up to 10 goals. Plymouth are now on a total of 13 goals and a goal run of five games. MK DONS picked up their 4th blank of the season after they lost 1-0 away to Exeter. FOREST GREEN lost 2-0 at home to Shrewsbury and that is their 4th blank score sheet and now no goals in their last four games. OXFORD UTD won 2-1 at home to Burton and they are on a total of 9 goals. PETERBOROUGH lost 2-1 away to Portsmouth and they are on a total of 16 goals. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY lost 2-0 at home to Barnsley and that is their 2nd blank of the season. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we have here are SALFORD CITY still in fourth place after they drew 2-2 at home to CRAWLEY TOWN. Salford are now on a total of 13 goals and have a goal run of six games. Crawley are on a total of 8 goals. BRADFORD won 2-1 at home to Walsall and they have taken their total up to 12 goals. MANSFIELD have taken their goals tally to 13 as they win 3-1 away to Doncaster. GILLINGHAM drew 0-0 against SWINDON at home and that is their 7th blank score sheet and now six games without a goal. Swindon picked up their 4th blank of the season. STOCKPORT COUNTY won their second league game by winning 1-0 at home against AFC WIMBLEDON. Stockport are on a total of 9 goals while Wimbledon have now failed to score in their last two games with four blank score sheets to date. SUTTON UTD won 2-1 at home to Harrogate and they are on 7 goals. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership CELTIC have remained on top after they thrashed their rivals RANGERS 4-0 at home. After that it seems that Celtic are already this season’s champions. Celtic are now on a total of  29 goals and still have that 100% scoring record after seven games played. Rangers after a goal run of six games, pick up their first blank of the season. ABERDEEN drew 1-1 away to Ross County and they are now on a total of 29 goals and a goal run of six games. Aberdeen are still in third place. HEARTS in fourth place lost 1-0 away to Livingston. Hearts picked up their third blank score sheet and now two in a row. HIBERNIAN won 1-0 at home to Kilmarnock and they are on a total of 16 goals.

In League One ALLOA won 4-2 away to Clyde and they have taken their goals tally up to 20. KELTY HEARTS won their first league game 2-0 at home against Falkirk. After a three game dry spell for goals, Kelty are on a total of 6 goals.

In League Two, new boys BONNYRIGG ROSE are still in second place after they lost 2-0 away to Elgin. Bonnyrigg pick up their 2nd blank of the season. STENHOUSEMUIR won 3-1 at home to Stranraer and they are on a total of 15 goals.

Our WORST three teams are 

GILLINGHAM (3) WEST HAM (3) EVERTON (5) Total of 11 goals 

Our Best performing team are now CELTIC as they have now scored in all of their seven league/cup games played and have a total of 29 goals. That gives them an average score of 4 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM this weekend as they have picked up seven blank score sheets out of eight games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are now CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL who won 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.

MARK GREGORY becomes our third player to reach number one this season after he picked up a total of 20 goals from the week. Mark’s teams are Celtic, Manchester City and Norwich.  Mark is just one goal in front of Hayley Adkins who remains in second place this weekend collecting a total of 14 goals this week from Aberdeen, Liverpool and Manchester City.

At the other end at 108 we still have MANDY WRIGHT who has now been there for four weeks. Mandy picked up seven goals this week with Bournemouth, Swansea and West Ham.
