Week Thirty-Nine

In Week Thirty-Nine of the competition and we had two players that picked up the highest score of 12 goals each. The players are LYANNA GRIMWOOD who picks up her third win of the season and ABBEY NEWMAN who becomes our 35th winner of the season. Lyanna has become the first player to of won three times this season, her last win was in Week Eleven with another shared win. Since then she has picked up another five blank weekend score sheets bringing her total to seven. Her highest position is still 33 in Week Eleven. Abbey has been with Golden Goals for a while now and last season she finished in 55th place with a total of 265 goals, with one full weekend win. This season Abbey has picked up a total of seven blank weekend score sheets and 41 is her highest position to date in Weeks Three and Five. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another change in the leading pack for the £40 cash prize money this season. JUNE TIGHE picked up the most number of midweek goals with 10. They came from Ipswich, Liverpool and West Brom.

Still leading the race this week we have JAMES BLYTH now with a total of 97 goals. James now needs just 3 goals for the cash. His teams are Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. In second place we still have NICK HORTON now with a total of 92 goals. In third place we still have TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion with a total of 90 goals. In fourth place we still have RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion but he is now joined with KEITH THOMSON up from six and CHRIS NUNN coming back in to the race. All are on a total of 89 goals. In fifth place with 88 goals we have SIMON DICKINSON coming back in. In sixth place this week we still have COLIN WEBB but he now has GEOFF CARTHY and JUNE TIGHE  joining him, all with a total of 87 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had all but five of our teams in action and out of the the ones that did play, 13 failed to score any goals. Once again we did have a couple of  high scoring results this weekend and as everyone by one picked up some goals. Last weekend the average score was five goals. This weekend the average score fell down to 4 goals. The highest score that we had came from HEARTS and NEWCASTLE where both teams picked up their highest result with six goals each. 

FA CUP Semi-Finals

MANCHESTER CITY won 3-0 against SHEFFIELD UNITED and have taken their goals tally up to 100 goals. It’s their 9th time of hitting 100 goals for City and they become our third team to do so this our 40th Season. Sheffield picked up their 10th blank of the season. BRIGHTON drew 0-0 against MANCHESTER UNITED after the full 90 minutes and even after extra time the game remained 0-0. In the penalty shoot out, United won 7-6 and are through to the final to face Manchester City. Brighton picked up their 7th blank score sheet after a goal run of nine games. United picked up their 6th blank of the season.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Arsenal are still top of the table with Manchester City in second place. NEWCATLE are up to third place after they won 6-1 at home to TOTTENHAM. With their biggest result of the season, Newcastle are now on a total of 63 goals. Tottenham picked up their 62nd goal of the season. Manchester United have dropped down to fourth place. FULHAM won 2-1 at home to LEEDS UNITED  and are on a total of 53 goals while Leeds are on 54 and a goal run of seven games now. ASTON VILLA drew 1-1 away to Brentford and they are on 52 goals. CRYSTAL PALACE drew 0-0 at home to EVERTON and picked up their 15th blank of the season while Everton picked up their 13th. LEICESTER CITY won 2-1 at home to Wolves and are on a total of 52 goals. LIVERPOOL won 3-2 at home to Nottingham Forest and are now on a total of 65 goals. BOURNEMOUTH lost 4-0 at home to WEST HAM and they have now had a total of 16 blank score sheets. West Ham have taken their goals tally to 39 and a goal run of six games. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Promoted BURNLEY lost 2-1 at home to QPR and have taken their goals total to 92 goals. Sheffield United played in the FA CUP but remain in second place. 

In the Play-Offs Luton are still in third place with Middlesbrough in fourth place. 

Meanwhile READING lost 2-1 away to Coventry and they are on a total of  49 goals. WATFORD picked up their 16th blank of the season after they lost 1-0 away to Hull. NORWICH lost 3-0 at home to SWANSEA and that is their 15th blank of the season. Swansea have taken their goals total to 68. WEST BROM lost 2-1 at home to SUNDERLAND and are on a total of 61 goals while Sunderland are on 68 goals.

LEAGUE ONE

PLYMOUTH are still at the top of the table after they won 3-1 at home against Cambridge Utd. Plymouth have now taken their goals tally to 77 goals. IPSWICH in second place won 3-0 away to PETERBOROUGH and they are on a total of 102 goals and have extended their goal run to 12 games. They become our second team to hit 100 goals and it’s their best total ever with Golden Goals. Peterborough picked up their 15th blank score sheet.

In the Play-Offs SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are now in third place after they won 2-1 at home to Exeter and they are on a total of 90 goals and a goal run of seven games. DERBY are up to sixth place after they won 1-0 at home to Burton. Derby are on a total of 81 goals.

Meanwhile  OXFORD UNITED picked up their 19th blank of the season after they lost 2-0 away to Barnsley. That is now just two goals in their last six games for Oxford. CHARLTON lost 3-2 at home to Morecambe and are on a total of 75 goals. Relegated FOREST GREEN ROVERS lost 3-1 away to Cheltenham. Rovers are on a total of 38 goals. MK DONS lost 1-0 away to Fleetwood and picked up their 18th blank of the season and now two in a row. BRISTOL ROVERS lost 2-0 away to Port Vale and picked up their 13th blank score sheet. LINCOLN CITY won 2-0 away to Wycombe and have taken their goals tally to 53 goals.  

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we have here is in the Play-Offs in fourth place where STOCKPORT COUNTY won 1-0 at home to Rochdale. Stockport are on a total of 72 goals and a goal run of 9 games now. SALFORD CITY moved in to sixth place after they won 3-2 away to Walsall. They have taken their goals tally to 70. BRADFORD CITY have moved up to seventh place after they drew 2-2 at home to GILLINGHAM.. Bradford are on a total of 58 goals while Gillingham are on 43 goals and a goal run of 8 games.

Meanwhile MANSFIELD TOWN drop out of the play-offs after they won 1-0 at home to Stevenage. Mansfield are on a total of 71 goals and a goal run of 6 games. SWINDON won 5-1 away to AFC WIMBLEDON and are now on a total of 58 goals while Wimbledon picked up goal number 51. SUTTON UNITED lost 4-1 away to Colchester and are on a total of 44 goals. CRAWLEY TOWN won 2-0 away to Hartlepool and they are on a total of 52 goals.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership, Champions CELTIC drew 1-1 at home to Motherwell. Celtic have taken their goals total to 128 with a goal run of 32 games. RANGERS are still in second place after they lost 2-0 away to Aberdeen who are still in third place. After a goal run of 32 games, Rangers have picked up their 2nd blank of the season. Aberdeen are on a total of 73 goals and a goal run of 7 games. HEARTS are still in fourth place after they won 6-1 at home against Ross County. Hearts are now on a total of 61 goals. HIBERNIAN drew 1-1 away to St Johnston and they are on a total of 59 goals and a goal run of 11 games.

In League One ALLOA are still in fourth place after they drew 1-1 at home to Falkirk. Alloa are on a total of 61 goals. After they had failed to score in their last four games, KELTY HEARTS drew 2-2 away to FC Edinburgh and they are on a total of 39 goals.

In League Two, STENHOUSEMUIR lost 3-1 away to Albion and they are on a total of 62 goals. After they had failed to score in their last two games, BONNYRIGG ROSE won 1-0 away to Forfar and are now on a total of 40goals.

Our WORST three teams are

EVERTON (27) CHELSEA (30) CRYSTAL PALACE (34) Total of 91 goals

Our best performing team are now CELTIC as they have now scored in all of their last 32 league/cup games played. They have a total of 128 goals. That gives them an average score of 3.2 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM as they have picked up a total of 24 blank score sheets out of 53 League/Cup games played.

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL winning 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five. 

Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with combo two, has remained at the top for his 26th consecutive weekend. Tony picked up a total of 6 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and he is now 7 goals in front now.

James Blyth has moved up to second place this weekend, after picking up a total of 12 goals this week. His teams are Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday.

At the other end at 108 we have  JOHN NICHOLLS for his second weekend there. John picked up a total of  just 3 goals for the week. John’s  teams are  Bristol Rovers, Everton and Leeds United. 

There have been a few changes in the race to be our 40th Champion this week.
