Week Thirty-Seven

In Week Thirty-Seven of the competition we had no prize money due to the Easter fixtures this weekend. But next weekend we will have our 4th Rollover in our 40th Season worth £10 once again. We had a total of seven players that picked up the highest score of 8 goals each this weekend.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us have managed to pick up some midweek goals again this week with another change in the leading pack for the £40 cash prize money this season. It was BOB SOPER that picked up the most with 7 goals. they came from Manchester City, Newcastle and Norwich.

Leading the race again this week we have JAMES BLYTH with a total of 89 goals. James now needs just 11 goals for the cash. His teams are Ipswich, Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday. In second place we still have TOBY BICKNELL our 2014/15 Champion but also FIONA CARTHY moving up from three. Both are on a total of 84 goals. In third place up from four we have NICK HORTON and RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion both on a total of 82 goals. In fourth place we now have COLIN WEBB down from three with a total of 81 goals. In fifth place with 80 goals is (me) STEVE REEVE moving down from fourth place. In sixth place this week we still have MARK GREGORY and KEITH THOMSON but also CHRIS DICKER moving down from five. Al, are on a total of 79 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had just 25 of our teams in action and out of the the ones that did play, 8 failed to score any goals. We did have a couple of  high results this weekend and as everyone picked up some goals, I thought that I would give you the average score. So for the second weekend in a row, the average score for this weekend remained at 5 goals.The highest score that we had on Easter Sunday came from CRYSTAL PALACE after they won 5-1 away to LEEDS UNITED. Palace picked up their biggest result of the season and are now on a total of 32 goals. Leeds picked up goal number 52.

Palace became our 69th English team to join Golden Goals in the 1988/89 Season on where they finished on a total of 82 goals. Their best season was in the 1996/97 Season with 93 goals. Last season they had a final score of 60 goals. This is their 24th Season with us and over the years they have now netted a total of 1569 goals. This gives them an average score of 65 goals per season. This season they have just one vote and they have had a total of fourteen blank score sheets to date.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table ARSENAL drew 2-2 away to LIVERPOOL and have taken their goals total to 76 goals and a goal run of ten games now. Liverpool have taken their goals tally to 56 goals. MANCHESTER CITY in second place are now 6 points behind the leaders after they won 4-1 away to Southampton. City are now on a total of 94 goals and a goal run of ten games, NEWCATLE. In third place won 2-1 away to Brentford and they are on a total of 57 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED are still in fourth place after they won 2-0 at home to EVERTON. United and are on a total of 72 goals while Everton picked up their 12th blank of the season. ASTON VILLA won 2-0 at home against Nottingham Forest and that has taken their goals total to 48 and have extended their goal run to nineteen games. FULHAM picked up their 8th blank score sheet after they lost 1-0 at home to WEST HAM. West Ham are on a total of 33 goals. LEICESTER CITY lost 1-0 at home to BOURNEMOUTH and that is their 12th blank of the season. Bournemouth are on a total of 36 goals. TOTTENHAM are on 59 goals after they won 2-1 at home against BRIGHTON. Brighton picked up their 71st goal of the season and a goal run of eight games now. CHELSEA lost 1-0 away to Wolves and that is their 14th blank of the season and now no goals in their last three games.

SCOTTISH LEAGUE RESULTS

In the Premiership, Champions CELTIC won 3-2 at home to rivals RANGERS who are in second place. Celtic’s goals take’s them to a total of 123 and a goal run of 30 games. Rangers are on a total of 90 goals. ABERDEEN have moved up to third place after they won 2-0 at home against Kilmarnock and have taken their goals total to 70 goals. HEARTS are down to fourth place after they lost 2-0 at home to St Mirren. That is Hearts 12th blank of the season. HIBERNIAN lost 2-1 away to Dundee Utd and they are on a total of 57 goals and a goal run of eight games.

In League One ALLOA are still in fourth place after they lost 2-1 at home to Queen of South and picked up their 59th goal of the season. KELTY HEARTS picked up their 14th blank score sheet after they drew 0-0 at home to Clyde Kelty have failed to score any goals in their last three games now.

In League Two, STENHOUSEMUIR drew 0-0 at home to BONNYRIGG ROSE and picked up their 3rd blank of the season while Bonnyrigg picked up their 9th after a goal run of six games.

Our WORST three teams are

EVERTON (26) CHELSEA (29) CRYSTAL PALACE (32) Total of 87 goals   

Our best performing team are RANGERS as they have now scored in all of their last 31 league/cup games played. They have a total of 90 goals. That gives them an average score of 2.3 goals per game.   

Our worst performing team is GILLINGHAM as they have picked up a total of 24 blank score sheets out of 49 League/Cup games played.     

Our highest goal scorers in our 40th Season are CELTIC who won 9-0 away to Dundee Utd in the league and LIVERPOOL winning 9-0 at home to Bournemouth in the league both from Week Five.  Our 2010/11 Champion TONY GUY with combo two, has remained at the top for his 24th consecutive weekend. Tony picked up a total of 6 goals this week from Arsenal, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday and he is 5 goals in front nowTony has moved up to 35th place in our Champions League this weekend. He has beaten our 1997/98 joint Champions Mike Harrington/David Salmon’s total of 276 goals and  Alec Short’s 1988/89 score of 280 goals. Mark Gregory in second place, picked up a total of 9 goals this week. His teams are Celtic, Manchester City and Norwich.

At the other end at 108 we have MANDY WRIGHT moving back down after she picked up a total of  just 3 goals for the week. Mandy’s teams are  AFC Bournemouth, Swansea and West Ham. Sandra has now been there for a total of 15 weeks throughout the season.  

The top ten over Easter has remained the same, well all most, as the final weeks are coming up. It now looks like a two horse race to the finish. Our Champion will be picking up a total of £240.
