Week Twenty-Five

In Week Twenty-Five of the competition we had another two winners to share the weekend prize money of £5 and they are MANGO (Paul Moran) and TIM WOOD both winning on a total of 13 goals each. As they are both new winners this season, our winners total now stands at 27.

Paul started with Golden Goals back in the 1994/95 Season but unfortunately I do not have the final news sheet for that season. but last season, Paul finished in the winning frame in fifth place with a total of 318 goals. He also had two weekend wins. This season he has been as high as 14th place in Week Two. This is his personal best weekend score and he has picked up a total of 3 blank weekend score sheets.

Tim started with us in the 1996/97 Season and finished in 43rd place with a total of 251 goals. Last season he finished in 28th place with 285 goals. This season he has been as high as 34th place in Week Fourteen. Tim has picked up a total of 5 blank weekend score sheets and this is also his personal best weekend score. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Only 22 of us have managed to pick up a goal or two this week and the race for the cash has changed slightly this week. We still have a total of 27 players that are over the half-way mark this week.

In first place this week we now have PETER PORTER moving up from two last week now on a total of 68 goals. Peter teams are Barnsley, Celtic and Leicester City. Down to second place this week we have last weeks leader JAMES SOMERVILLE and up from three MARK GREGORY, both now with a total of 67 goals. In third place up from four we have GRANT PHILLIPS with a total of 65 goals. In fourth place up from six we have ANDY EYLES now with a total of 62 goals. In fifth place we still have BAILEY MORAN but coming back into the race we have our 2017/18 Champion CHRIS BOLBERY both with a total of 61 goals. In sixth place this week we still have STUART KEMP (1) and JED WEARDEN but coming back in we have ANN WELLARD. All three are on a total of 60 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 38 of our teams in action over the weekend and out of them, only 6 teams failed to score any goals. Despite having some games cancelled due to the cold weather that we had over the weekend, and once again we did not have a full fixture, the average score for the weekend went up from three goals last weekend to 5 goals this weekend. It seems that our big teams are starting to score some goals for us all now.

The highest score that we had came from two of our teams. In the SCOTTISH CUP fourth round where CELTIC won 5-0 at home against non-league Buckie Thistle which was no surprise. Celtic have taken their goals total to 58 goals. In the Premier League. ARSENAL won 5-0 at home to London rivals CRYSTAL PALACE. Arsenal have taken their goals tally up to 44 goals while Palace picked up their ninth blank of the season and now three games without a goal. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

LIVERPOOL are still top of the table after they won 4-0 away to AFC BOURNEMOUTH. Liverpool have taken their goals tally to 61 and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. Bournemouth picked up their fifth blank score sheet after a goal run of 13 games. Manchester City in second place even though they had no game this week. In third place we now have Arsenal after their big win. NOTTINGHAM FOREST lost 3-2 away to Brentford and are on a total of 31 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. WEST HAM drew 2-2 to bottom of the table Sheffield United and they are on a total of 41 goals. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Leicester City are still top of the table with SOUTHAMPTON now in second place after they won 3-1 away to SWANSEA CITY. Southampton are now on a total of 58 goals and have now scored in all of their last 22 league/cup games. Swansea are on a total of 45 goals.

In the Play-offs we have two of the four teams and they are Ipswich Town now in third place with LEEDS UNITED still in fourth place. They won 2-1 at home to Preston. Leeds are now on a total of 56 goals.

Meanwhile BRISTOL CITY drew 1-1 at home against Watford and they are on a total of 38 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH drew 1-1 at home to Rotherham and they are on a total of 57 goals. NORWICH won 2-1 at home against Hull and they are on a total of 53 goals. PLYMOUTH won 3-1 at home to Cardiff and they have taken their goals tally to 54 and they have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY picked up goal number 28 after they lost 2-1 at home to Coventry. Wednesday are now second from bottom. STOKE lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham and are on a total of 37 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

Our highest team here are PETERBOROUGH still in second place after they won 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury. Borough are on a total of 66 goals.

In the Play-offs we have two of the four teams. DERBY are now in third place after they drew 0-0 away to Lincoln City. Derby picked up their fourth blank of the season after a goal run of 16 games. Barnsley are now in fifth place.

Meanwhile BRISTOL ROVERS lost 2-1 at home to BLACKPOOL. Rovers are on a total of 49 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 21 league/cup games. Blackpool are on 57 goals. CHARLTON lost 2-0 away to Burton and picked up their sixth blank of the season. READING lost 1-0 away to Wigan and they have now had a total of six blank score sheet after a goal run of 15 league/cup games. 

LEAGUE TWO

WREXHAM are still our highest team here in second place after they lost 1-0 away to Newport. After they had scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games, Wrexham have now had a total of five blank score sheets.

In the Play-offs we have two of the four teams. They are Notts County still in sixth place and with MK DONS still in seventh place after they lost 2-1 at home to Morecambe. The Dons are on a total of 44 goals. 

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In the SCOTTISH CUP fourth round, we had 7 teams in action this weekend. Out of them only 4 made it through to the next round. Including Celtic we have HIBERNIAN who won 1-0 away to Forfar and are on a total of 33 goals. KILMARNOCK won 2-0 at home to Dundee and are on a total of 36 goals. RANGERS won 4-1 away to Dumbarton and have taken their goals tally to 55 and have now scored in all of their last 20 league/cup games.

Teams that went out of the cup are KELTY HEARTS who lost 3-0 away to Ayr Utd and picked up their fifth blank of the season. FALKIRK lost 2-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose and are on a total of 63 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. ROSS COUNTY lost 3-0 a to home to Partick and picked up their eleventh blank of the season and now they have failed to score in their last two games. 

In League Two top of the table STENHOUSEMUIR won 1-0 at home to Stranraer. Stenhousemuir have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games with a total of 41 goals. It’s 30 goals for EAST FIFE after they drew 2-2 at home to Peterhead.

Our WORST three teams are 

CRYSTAL PALACE (26) SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (28) ABERDEEN (29) Total of 83 goals 

Our Best performing team are now TOTTENHAM after they have now scored in all of their 23 league/cup games. They have a total of 46 goals which gives them an average score of 2 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY this week as they have picked up 13 blank score sheets out of their 31 league/cup games. 

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY and BRISTOL ROVERS have both pick up our second highest score with 7 goals. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen.

JAMES SOMERVILLE moves back to the top this weekend as he picks up a total of 7 goals from the weekend. James has now been at the top for a total of 4 weeks this season. He’s teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough. Last weeks leader Bailey Moran moves back down to second place and now 5 goals behind James as he picked up a total of just 2 goals this weekend.

At the other end at 110 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his sixth weekend. John picked up just 3 goals from the weekend. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. 

There have been big changes in the top ten this weekend.
