Week Twenty-Four

In Week Twenty-Four of the competition we had two winners to share the weekend prize money of £5 and they are KYLE HAMMOND and SAMUEL STEPHENS both winning on a total of 9 goals each. As they are both new winners this season, our winners total now stands at 25.

Kyle is in their very first season of Golden Goals and we would like to welcome them to the competition. Kyle has been as high as 27th place in Week Eleven and has only picked up one blank score sheet. Their best team is Notts County.

Samuel is in his third season with us with the 2021/22 Season being his first. Samuel finished 29th place with a total of 290 goals. He picked up one weekend win. Last season he finished in the winning frame in 8th place with a total of 312 goals. This season we can see Samuel at his highest position to date. He has picked up a total of four blank score sheets. His best team is Middlesbrough. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Nearly half of us have picked up a goal or two this week and the race for the cash has remained the same once again this week. We now have a total of 27 players that are over the half-way mark this week.

In first place this week we still have JAMES SOMERVILLE with a total of 67 goals. James teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough. Remaining in second place we still have PETER PORTER on a total of 66 goals. In third place we still have MARK GREGORY now with a total of 65 goals. In fourth place we still have GRANT PHILLIPS with a total of 62 goals. In fifth place we still have BAILEY MORAN with a total of 61 goals. In sixth place this week we now have ANDY EYLES remaining there now with STUART KEMP (1) and JED WEARDEN both come back in to the race. All three are on a total of 60 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 35 of our teams in action over the weekend and out of them, only 6 of our teams failed to score any goals. Despite that we did not have a full fixture this weekend, the average score for the weekend fell from five goals last weekend to just 3 goals this weekend. The highest score that we had came from League Two where NOTTS COUNTY drew 5-5 away to Grimsby and have taken their goals tally up to 65 and a goal run of 11 league/cup games.

Notts County started with Golden Goals back in the 1985/86 Season on where they finished the season with a total of 90 goals. They became our 49th voted team. Their highest score came in the 2009/10 Season with 106 goals which is the only time that they have reached 100 goals in a season. Last time out was in the 2018/19 Season with 51 goals. This is their 8th season with us and over the years they have netted a total of 558 goals. That now gives them an average score of 69 goals per season to date. This season they have two votes and they have picked up a total of four blank score sheets to date. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Liverpool are top this weekend with MANCHESTER CITY in second place. They won 3-2 away to NEWCASTLE and are now on a total of 53 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Newcastle are on a total of 49 goals. In third place we have ASTON VILLA who picked up their 3rd blank of the season, after a goal run of 10 league/cup games as they drew 0-0 away to Everton. CHELSEA won 1-0 at home to FULHAM and picked up goal number 45. Fulham picked up their 9th blank of the season. MANCHESTER UNITED drew 2-2 at home to TOTTENHAM and are now on a total of 29 goals. Tottenham are on 46 goals and they have now scored in all of their 22 league/cup games this season. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Top of the table LEICESTER CITY lost their 4th league game of the season, 3-1 away to Coventry. City are on a total of 63 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games. Second place IPSWICH won 2-1 at home against SUNDERLAND. Ipswich are on a total of 61 goals while Sunderland picked up goal number 38.

In the Play-offs we have two of the four teams and they are SOUTHAMPTON in third place after they won 4-0 at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY. Southampton have taken their goals tally to 55 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 21 league/cup games. Wednesday picked up their 13th blank of the season. LEEDS UNITED are in fourth place after they won 3-0 away to Cardiff. Leeds are now on a total of 54 goals and they have now scored 9 goals in their last 3 games.

Meanwhile SWANSEA drew 2-2 away to Birmingham and are on a total of 44 goals. PLYMOUTH drew 1-1 away to Huddersfield and they are on a total of 51 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. BRISTOL CITY picked up their 11th blank of the season after they lost 2-0 away to Preston. City have now scored just 1 goal in their last 4 games. STOKE won 1-0 away to bottom of the table Rotherham. Stoke are on a total of 36 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH won 3-1 away to Millwall and have taken their goals total to 56 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

Our highest team here are PETERBOROUGH in second place after they won 2-1 away to CHARLTON. Borough are on a total of 64 goals while Charlton hit goal number 48.

In the Play-offs we have two of the four teams. Derby are in fourth place with BARNSLEY in sixth. They won 2-1 at home against BRISTOL ROVERS. Barnsley are on a total of 56 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. Rovers are on 47 goals and have now scored in all of their last 19 league/cup games.

Meanwhile BLACKPOOL won 2-0 at home to Exeter and are on a total of 53 goals. 

LEAGUE TWO

WREXHAM are still our highest team here in second place. They won 2-0 at home to AFC WIMBLEDON and have taken their goals total to 57 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. Wimbledon picked up their 8th blank of the season.

In the Play-offs we have two of the four teams. They are Notts County in sixth place and MK DONS in seventh place as they won 2-1 away to Tranmere. The Dons are on a total of 43 goals.

Meanwhile SALFORD CITY won 1-0 away to Crawley and are on a total of 44 goals. It’s 40 goals for SUTTON UNITED after they drew 2-2 at home to Barrow. 

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In League One FALKIRK are still top of the table after they drew 2-2 away to Edinburgh City  and are on a total of 62 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. COVE RANGERS in third place lost 2-0 away to Hamilton and picked up their 5th blank of the season and now two in  a row. It’s 40 goals for KELTY HEARTS after they drew 1-1 at home against Anna. 

In League Two it’s 40 goals for top of the table STENHOUSEMUIR after they won 2-0 away to The Spartans. Stenhousemuir have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games. EAST FIFE drew 1-1 at home to CLYDE. Fife are on a total of  28 goals while Clyde who are still bottom of the table are on a total of 31 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. 

Our BEST three teams this week 

NOTTS COUNTY (65) PETERBOROUGH (64) LEICESTER CITY (63) Total of 192 goals 

Our WORST three teams are 

CRYSTAL PALACE (26) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (26) SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (27) Total of 79 goals 

Our Best performing team are now TOTTENHAM after they have now scored in all of their 23 league/cup games. They have a total of 46 goals which gives them an average score of 2 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY this week as they have picked up 13 blank score sheets out of their 30 league/cup games. 

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY and BRISTOL ROVERS have both pick up our second highest score with 7 goals. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen.

BAILEY MORAN moves to the top this weekend and becomes our 7th player to do so this season as he picks up a total of 6 goals from the week. Baileys teams are Leicester City, Manchester City and Peterborough. Last weeks leader James Somerville moves down to second place on goal difference. James picked up a total of just 3 goals this weekend.

At the other end at 110 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his fifth weekend. John picked up just 2 goals from the weekend. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir. 

Once again we have had a bit of a change in the top ten this weekend.
