Week Twenty-Three

In Week Twenty-Three of the competition we had our fourth Rollover of £10 in cash. We had two winners to share the weekend prize money and they are BARBARA BARNES (1) and MARK JOHNSTON both won on a total of 12 goals. Barbara has now picked up her second win of the season, and now with her first combination of teams. Barbara’s second combo won in Week Twelve with our second Rollover of the season. Barbara’s first combination has picked up a total of four blank score sheets at the weekend’s and the highest with this one, is 33rd place in Week Five. Her best team is Manchester City. Mark started with Golden Goals back in the 2020/21 season on where he finished in the winning frame in 5th place with a total of 292 goals. He also had one shared weekend win. In the following season he finished in the winning frame once again in 8th place with 318 goals. Again he has a shared weekend win. Last season he finished in 59th place with a total of 259 goals. This season we can see mark at his highest  position to date in 22nd place. He has picked up three blank score sheets at the weekend’s. His best team is Leicester City. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

All but six of us have picked up goals this week and the race for the cash has changed once again this week. We now have a total of 26 players that are over the half-way mark this week. The highest score that we had in midweek came from three players with a total of 10 goals each. They are JAMES SOMERVILLE, BOB SOPER and SCOTT THOMSON (2) 

In first place this week we now have JAMES SOMERVILLE moving up from three now on a total of 67 goals. James teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough. Remaining in second place we still have PETER PORTER now on a total of 66 goals. In third place down from one we now have MARK GREGORY with a total of 64 goals. In fourth place down from three we now have GRANT PHILLIPS coming back in to the race with a total of 62 goals. In fifth place we have BAILEY MORAN up from six with a total of 61 goals. In sixth place this week we have down from five ANDY EYLES on a total of 60 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 37 of our teams in action over the weekend and out of them we only had 4 of our teams that failed to score any goals. The average score for the weekend was 5 goals. The highest score that we had came from the FA CUP Third Round  where MANCHESTER CITY won 5-0 against Huddersfield, which was no surprise.  City have taken their goals tally to 50.

Manchester City are one of our original teams from our first season of 1983/84. In that season they became our 15th voted team and they finished on a total of 73 goals. They have reached their highest score of 137 goals twice. They first scored that amount in the 2913/14 Season and then again in the 2018/19 Season. They have netted 100 or more goals in 9 of their 30 season’s. Last season they finished on a total of 118 goals. They have scored a total of 2612 goals in that time and that now gives them an average score of 87 goals per season to date. This season they have picked up 3 blank score sheets and they have a total of 44 votes.

FA CUP Third Round

We had another 28 of our teams in action in this round and out of them, 7 failed to get through to the next round, so far. 

The teams through are IPSWICH after they won 3-1 away to AFC WIMBLEDON. Ipswich after they had score just one goal in their last 4 games, have now taken their goals total to 59. Wimbledon are on 55 goals. LEICESTER CITY won 3-2 away to Millwall and are now on a total of 62 goals and have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE won 3-0 away to SUNDERLAND and have taken their goals total to 47 goals while Sunderland picked up their 9th blank of the season. PLYMOUTH won 3-1 at home to SUTTON UNITED and have taken their goals total to 50 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Sutton are on 38 goals. AFC BOURNEMOUTH won 3-2 away to QPR and are now on a total of 37 goals and a goal run of 13 league/cup games. SOUTHAMPTON won 4-0 at home to Walsall and have taken their goals total to 51 goals and have extended their goal run to 20 league/cup games. BRIGHTON won 4-2 away to STOKE and are now on a total of 42 goals. Stoke are on a total of 35 goals. CHELSEA won 4-0 at home to Preston and are now on a total of 44 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. ASTON VILLA won 1-0 away to MIDDLESBROUGH and picked up goal number 45 and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. Brough picked up their 7th blank of the season. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY picked up their biggest win of the season after they won 4-0 at home to Cardiff. They have taken their goals tally to 27 goals. SWANSEA won 2-0 at home against Morecambe and are on a total of 42 goals. LEEDS UNITED won 3-0 away to PETERBOROUGH and have taken their goals total to 51. Borough after a goal run of 26 league/cup games, picked up their 2nd blank of the season. WREXHAM won 1-0 away to Shrewsbury and are on a total of 55 goals and have  a goal run of 9 league/cup games. LIVERPOOL won 2-0 against ARSENAL away and are on a total of 55 goals while Arsenal picked up their 4th blank of the season. 

In replays we already have Palace to play but we now have NORWICH after they drew 1-1 at home to BRISTOL ROVERS. Norwich are on a total of 46 goals while Rovers are also on 46 goals and have now scored in all of their last 18 league/cup games. NOTTINGHAM FOREST drew 2-2 at home to BLACKPOOL and are now on a total of 26 goals. Blackpool are on 49 goals. WEST HAM drew 1-1 at home against BRISTOL CITY and picked up their 39th goal of the season. City after they had failed to score in their last two games, are now on a total of 36 goals.

LEAGUE ONE

Just a couple of games here. DERBY won 3-1 away to Fleetwood and are now on a total of 50 goals and have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. CHARLTON drew 3-3 away to Port Vale and have taken their goal total to 47.

LEAGUE TWO

After they had failed to score in their last two games, SALFORD CITY drew 2-2 at home to Forest Green and are on a total of 43 goals.

SCOTTISH RESULTS

In League One FALKIRK are still top of the table after their 1-0 home win against Queen of South and are on a total of 56 goals.  COVE RANGERS are in third place after they drew 2-2 at home to KELTY HEARTS and are on a total of 48 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. Kelty are on a total of 39 goals.

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR are still top of the table after they won 2-1 at home to Forfar. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 38 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. CLYDE who are still bottom of the table won their second league game 3-2 at home to Bonnyrigg Rose and are on a total of 30 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. EAST FIFE won 2-1 away to Dumbarton and that is their 11th blank of the season and now two in a row, after they had failed to score in their previous two games. Fife are on a total of 27 goals.

Our WORST three teams are

MANCHESTER UNITED (25) CRYSTAL PALACE (26) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (26)  Total of 77 goals

Our Best performing team are now TOTTENHAM after they have now scored in all of their 22 league/cup games. They have a total of 44 goals which gives them an average score of 2 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is STOKE CITY this week as they have picked up 13 blank score sheets out of their 30 league/cup games.

Our highest goal scoring teams in our 41st Season are NEWCASTLE UNITED after they won 8-0 away to Sheffield United in Week Eight. BARNSLEY and BRISTOL ROVERS have both pick up our second highest score with 7 goals. Barnsley won 7-0 at home to Port Vale in the first league game of the season in Week One. Bristol Rovers won 7-2 at home to non-league Whitby Town in the first round of the FA CUP in Week Fourteen. 

JAMES SOMERVILLE remains at the top for his third consecutive weekend as he picks up a total of 13 goals from the week. James teams are Celtic, Leicester City and Peterborough. Bailey Moran moves up to second place but 7 goals behind James. Bailey picked up a total of 15 goals this week from his selection of Leicester City, Manchester City and Peterborough.

At the other end at 110 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY (John Wood) for his fourth weekend. John picked up just 3 goals from the week. John has Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.

We had a slight change in the top ten but there were a lot of changes in the table below them.
