Week Twenty-Seven

In Week Twenty-Seven of the competition, we had another £5 Weekend Jackpot. This weekends winner was PETER WELLARD winning on a score of 12 goals, which is his personal best score. Peter becomes our 29th winner of the season. 

Peter started with Golden Goals back in the 2004/05 and finished in 57th place with a total of 261 goals. He picked up 2 shared weekend wins. Last season Peter finished in 55th place with 293 goals and again he picked up 2 shared weekend wins. This season he has been as high as 20th place in Week One. He has picked up 3 blank weekend score sheets and Celtic are his best team. Here are his winners teams.

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us managed to pick up some more goals during midweek, so the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has changed again from last week. We had another 30 players that have now reached the half-way mark which now brings our total to 65 players that have hit the 50 mark. The highest score this week went to GRANT PHILLIPS and DAVE SOMERVILLE with a total of 13 goals each.

Leading the race this week we have BARBARA BARNES (2) back in front moving up from two, now with a total of 67 goals. In second place both up from three we have PETER WELLARD and RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion, both with a total of 66 goals. In third place wenow have last weeks leader ALFIE DIMMOCK with CHRIS SETFORD up from four and BARRY BURROUGHS all now on a total of 63 goals. In fourth place all with a total of 62 goals we now have MARTIN CORBETT up from five and coming back into the race we have GEOFF DOCKERILL our 1994/95 Champion, with BRUCE SELF and DAVE SOMERVILLE our 2009/10 Champion. In fifth place we now have JAMES BLYTH, LUKE HAMMOND and GRANT PHILLIPS, all on a total of 61 goals.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 15 of our teams without a game this weekend and we had another 9 teams that failed to score any goals. We had some bad scores this weekend on the whole, with some of our top teams picking up blank score sheets. The average score down from seven goals of last weekend to just 4 goals this weekend. So if you have done better than that? Well done. The highest score over the weekend was 5 goals, and they came from two of our teams. They were from the Scottish Premiership from CELTIC and from the Scottish Championship FALKIRK. Here are the rest of the weekend results.

FA CUP FOURTH Round

We had a total of 14 of our teams in cup action and out of them 8 have made it through to the next round. They are MILLWALL who won 2-0 away to LEEDS UNITED and are on a total of 36 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. Leeds picked up their 8th blank of the season. MANCHESTER CITY won 2-1 away to Leyton Orient and are on a total of 61 goals and have now scored in all of their 13 league/cup games. IPSWICH TOWN picked up their biggest result of the season as they win 4-1 away to Coventry City. Ipswich have taken their goals tally to 31. AFC BOURNEMOUTH won 2-0 away to Everton and are on a total of 45 goals. PRESTON NE drew 0-0 after extra time and then won 4-2 on penalties. Preston picked up their 9th blank of the season. BURNLEY won 1-0 away to SOUTHAMPTON and are on a total of 41 goals. Southampton after a goal run of 5 league/cup games, picked up their 11th blank of the season. NEWCASTLE won 3-2 away to BIRMINGHAM CITY and are now on a total of 59 goals and have now scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games. Birmingham are on a total of 54 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. ASTON VILLA won 2-1 at home to TOTTENHAM and are on a total of 41 goals. Tottenham are now on a total of 61 goals. Other teams that went out are LIVERPOOL with the biggest shock of the 4th round games as they lost 1-0 away to Plymouth. Liverpool after a goal run of 6 league/cup games, picked up their 3rd blank of the season. CHELSEA who lost 2-1 away to Brighton and are on a total of 58 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Leeds United are top of the table with SHEFFIELD UNITED are still in 2nd place after they won 2-1 at home to PORTSMOUTH. United are on a total of 47 goals while Portsmouth, after they had failed to score in their previous 2 games, picked up goal number 37.

In the Play-offs we still have just one of the 4 teams and they are Burnley in 3rd place.

Meanwhile NORWICH CITY drew 1-1 at home to Derby County and are on a total of 54 goals. SWANSEA CITY won 1-0 away to Bristol City and they are on a total of 36 goals.

LEAGUE ONE

Birmingham City remain top of the table this week.

In the Play-offs we now have three of the 4 teams. In 3rd place we still have Wrexham with HUDDERSFIELD TOWN down to 5th place after they drew 0-0 at home to Reading and that is their 8th blank of the season. CHARLTON have moved up to 6th place after they won 2-0 at home to Stevenage. Charlton are on a total of 47 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.

Meanwhile  BARNSLEY lost 2-1 away to Stockport County and picked up their 47th goal of the season. BOLTON won 4-3 at home to Crawley Town and have taken their goals total to 52. BLACKPOOL drew 1-1 away to Burton and are on a total of 51 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games.

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we have are NOTTS COUNTY who have moved up to 2nd place after they won 2-0 at home to Morecambe. County are now on a total of 58 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. Doncaster Rovers drop down to 3rd place.

In the Play-offs we have just one of the 4 teams. They are AFC WIMBLEDON down to 5th place after they drew 0-0 away to Accrington. That is Wimbledon’s 10th blank of the season. 

Meanwhile  BROMLEY won 1-0 away to MK DONS and picked up their 48th goal of the season. The Dons picked up their 11th blank of the season.

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

SCOTTISH CUP FIFTH Round

we had just 4 of our teams in cup action and out of them 2 have made it through to the next round. They are DUNDEE who after they had failed to score in their last 2 league games, won 4-0 at home to Airdrie. Dundee have taken their goals total to 66 goals. CELTIC won 5-0 at home to Raith Rovers and are now on a total of 97 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. The teams that went out are RANGERS go out of the cup after they lost 1-0 at home to Queen’s Park. After a goal run of 19 league/cup games, Rangers have now had a total of four blank score sheets. COVE RANGERS are out of the cup after they lost 3-0 away to Livingston and they picked up their 6th blank of the season.

In the Championship, top of the table FALKIRK won 5-2 at home to Partick and have taken their goals tally up to 64.

In League One STENHOUSEMUIR are still top after they won 2-1 at home to Queen of the South. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 44 goals.

In League Two EAST FIFE are still top after they won 1-0 away to The Spartans and they have picked up their 58th goal of the season. PETERHEAD remained in second place after they won 4-3 away to Bonnyrigg Rose. Peterhead have taken their goals total to 49 goals. CLYDE won 2-0 at home to Stranraer and are on a total of  38 goals.

Our best performing team this weekend are now NEWCASTLE UNITED after they have now scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games. They have a total of 59 goals which gives them an average score of 1.8 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is now PORTSMOUTH this weekend as they have had a total of 14 blank score sheet from 33 league/cup games. They have a total of 37 goals.

Our highest goal-scoring team that we have in our 42nd Season are MANCHESTER CITY after they won 8-0 at home to Salford City in the FA Cup 3rd Round in Week Twenty-Three.

 GEOFF DOCKERILL our 1994/95 Champion, is celebrating his 6th weekend at the top after his teams picked him up a total of 15 goals from the week. Geoff’s teams are Arsenal, Celtic and Liverpool. Luke Hammond is still in second place, now just 3 goals behind Geoff. Luke picked up a total of 18 goals from the week and his teams are Celtic, Chelsea and Liverpool.

At the other end at 114 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY with his 13th consecutive weekend. Charlie’s teams picked up just 2 goals again all from the weekend. His teams are Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.
