New Years Day Results

Welcome back to Golden Goals and may I start off by wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year.
Well what a great start to the New Year as we have a look at the New Year Days results.
In the English Premier League, LEICESTER CITY are trying to catch up to Liverpool as they win 3-0 away to NEWCASTLE. Leicester are now on a total of 56 goals while Newcastle picked up their seventh blank score sheet of the season. MANCHESTER CITY are still in third place after they won 2-1 at home to EVERTON. City have now extended their goal run to fifteen games and they are now on a total of 65 goals. Everton hit goal number 34. CHELSEA drew 1-1 away to Brighton and they are now on 44 goals while ASTON VILLA are now on 42 goals as they win 2-1 away to Burnley. TOTTENHAM lost 1-0 away to Southampton and that is their fifth blank of the season. WOLVES lost 2-1 away to on form Watford and they are now on a total of 32 goals. WEST HAM have a new manager and new spirit as they picked up their biggest win of the season by winning 4-0 at home to Bournemouth. West Ham have taken their goals tally to 27 goals. ARSENAL won 2-0 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED and they are now on a total of 38 goals while United picked up their fifth blank of the season.

In the Championship, LEEDS UNITED drew 1-1 away to WEST BROM to keep both joint top. Leeds are now on a total of 48 goals and they have now scored in all of their last twelve games. West Brom picked up goal number 49. BRENTFORD have moved in to third place after they won 4-0 away to Bristol City and they are now on 42 goals. LUTON are now bottom of the league after they lost 3-1 away to Millwall. Luton are now on 38 goals. BIRMINGHAM lost 3-2 at home to Wigan and that has taken their goals total up to 31 goals. FULHAM are now on 40 goals as they lost 2-1 at home to Reading. STOKE picked up their biggest result of the season by winning 5-2 away to HUDDERSFIELD who are now on a total of 30 goals. NOTTINGHAM FOREST won 3-2 at home to BLACKBURN and they are now on a total of 38 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH won 2-0 away to PRESTON to take their goals tally to 28 and a goal run of seven games. Preston picked up their tenth blank of the season and now two in a row. They have also now scored just one goal in their last four games. QUEENS PARK RANGERS picked up the highest result of the day and their personal best as they won 6-1 at home to CARDIFF. Rangers are now on a total of 47 goals while Cardiff picked up goal number 38. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY picked up their fifth blank of the season after a goal run of eleven games as they lost 1-0 at home to Hull.

In League One, ROTHERHAM have moved up to second place after they won 2-1 at home against BLACKPOOL. Rotherham are now on a total of 53 to Blackpool’s 41. ACCRINGTON STANLEY lost 2-1 at home to Rochdale and that is their 35th goal of the season and they have now scored in all of the last seven games. It’s 30 goals for SOUTHEND as they drew 1-1 away to AFC Wimbledon. DONCASTER won 1-0 at home against Oxford Utd and that was their 35th goal of the season. SUNDERLAND drew 1-1 away to Fleetwood and they are now on a total of 37 goals. PORTSMOUTH have now extended their goal run to fourteen games as they drew 1-1 away to Gillingham and they are now on a total of 43 goals. LINCOLN CITY won 2-1 at home to PETERBOROUGH to take their goals tally to 32 while Borough hit goal number 50 after failing to score in their last three games. MK DONS picked up another three goals as they win 3-0 at home to Bristol Rovers. The Dons are now on a total of 32. IPSWICH drew 1-1 away to leaders Wycombe and they are now on a total of 38 goals.

In League Two, BRADFORD won 1-0 at home to Morecambe and that was their 32nd goal of the season. MANSFIELD won 3-2 away to Cambridge Utd and that has taken them up to a total of 36 goals. FOREST GREEN ROVERS lost 2-1 away to Exeter and that is their thirteenth blank of the season and now just three goals in their last seven games. SALFORD CITY lost 1-0 away to Grimsby and that is their tenth blank score sheet of the season. OLDHAM lost 2-0 at home against SCUNTHORPE and that is their tenth blank of the season while Scunthorpe are now on a total of 34 goals. It’s 40 goals for PLYMOUTH as they lost 2-1 at home to Swindon. LEYTON ORIENT lost 1-0 away to Walsall and that is their eighth blank score sheet of the season.
