Week Twenty-Four

In Week Twenty-Four of the competition we have had our twenty-sixth winner of the season and the full Jackpot cash of £6 went to MATT GRIFFITHS who won on a score of 12 goals.
Matt is in his very first season with Golden Goals and we thank him for joining in the competition. The highest that Matt has been so far is 27th place in Week Eight and he has picked up a total of three blank score sheets to date. Like so many of us, Manchester City’s is Matt’s best team. Here is his combination

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Most of us picked up some more goals this week and the race for the cash has changed this week. It was MARK GREGORY who picked up the highest midweek score with five goals. They came from Manchester City three and Doncaster two. Mark’s third team is Celtic. There are now a total of forty-nine players that now are on a total of 50 or more midweek goals this week.
PATRICK O’DONAGHUE has remained in the lead now with a total of 70 goals. Patrick picked up a total of three goals from Manchester City. His other teams are Fulham and Liverpool. Remaining in second place we still have COLIN WEBB (2) with a total of 66 goals. In third place moving down from two is ANDY EYLES now on a total of 63 goals. In fourth place with a total of 62 goals is TONY GUY (4). In fifth place all with a total of 61 goals we have PHIL REEVE down from third place AVA & AUBREY CLARK  down from fourth place with TONY GUY (1) and DANNY HARRINGTON moving back up. 

WEEKEND RESULTS
This weekend we had seven of our teams without a game and another six that failed to score any goals. So it’s is no surprise that this weekends average score moved up from five goals of last weekend to 7 goals this weekend. The good news is that once again, all but two players picked up some goals.
The highest score that we had this weekend came from the Premier League where MANCHESTER CITY won 6-1 away to ASTON VILLA. With the three goals in midweek. City have now taken their goals tally up to 78 goals. Villa hit goal number 45.
City have now scored in all of their last eighteen games with fifteen goals being scored in their last four games. So it’s looks certain that City will pick up another 100 goals this season. At this stage last season they were on a total of 78 goals and they had scored in all of their last eight games.

PREMIER LEAGUE
Champions LIVERPOOL have now won twenty of their twenty-one league games as they win 1-0 away to TOTTENHAM. Liverpool are now on a total of 58 goals while Tottenham in 8th place in the league, picked up their sixth blank of the season and now just one goal in their last three games. Manchester City are now in second place with LEICESTER CITY go down to third as they lost 2-1 at home to Southampton. Leicester are now on a total of 60 goals. CHELSEA are in fourth place after they won 3-0 at home against Burnley and they are now on 49 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED come next as they win 4-0 at home to bottom of the table Norwich. United are now on a total of 43 goals. It’s 40 goals for ARSENAL as they drew 1-1 away to Crystal Palace. WOLVES drew 1-1 with NEWCASTLE to pick up goal number 33 to Newcastle’s 23. EVERTON won 1-0 at home to Brighton and they are now on a total of 35 goals.

CHAMPIONSHIP
WEST BROM are back on top after they drew 2-2 away to Charlton to take their goals tally up to 52. LEEDS UNITED are back down to second place after they lost 2-0 at home to SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY now in 6th place in the league. Leeds picked up their fifth blank of the season and now two games in a row without a goal.
We have all four teams in the Play-off zone and they are BRENTFORD in third place as they win 3-1 at home to QUEENS PARK RANGERS and that now gives them a total of 46 goals to Rangers 53. FULHAM are in fourth place as they win 1-0 away to Hull and that is goal number 43 for them. Fifth is NOTTINGHAM FOREST as they drew 1-1 away to reading. Forest are now on 39 goals. BARNSLEY won 2-1 at home to HUDDERSFIELD and they are now on 38 goals to Huddersfield’s 31. It’s 40 goals for BLACKBURN ROVERS as they drew 1-1 at home to PRESTON who are now on 45 goals. BIRMINGHAM won 2-1 away to LUTON and they have taken their goals total to 35 while Luton hit goal number 39. MIDDLESBROUGH drew
2-2 at home to DERBY and they are now on 31 goals and have now scored in all of their last nine games. Derby are on 30 goals. STOKE picked up their eleventh blank score sheet and now two in a row after they drew 0-0 at home to Millwall.

LEAGUE ONE
ROTHERHAM are top here now after they won 3-1 away to Oxford Utd. Rotherham have now scored in all of their last seven games and have a total of 58 goals.
In the Play-off zone we have just two teams out of the four. IPSWICH are in third place after they won 4-1 at home to ACCRINGTON STANLEY. Ipswich are now on 42 goals while Accrington hit goal number 36 and have now scored in all of their last eight games. SUNDERLAND have moved up to sixth place after they won 4-0 at home to Wycombe. Sunderland are now on a total of 44 goals. DONCASTER are now on 39 goals as they win 2-0 away to Bristol Rovers. Doncaster have now scored in all of their last eight games. MK DONS drew 1-1 away to Coventry and they are now on 33 goals and they have also now scored in all of their last eight games.PETERBOROUGH picked up their eighth blank score sheet after they drew 0-0 at home to Gillingham. Borough have now scored just three goals in their last six games. PORTSMOUTH won 2-1 at home to AFC Wimbledon and they are now on 47 goals and have scored in all of their last sixteen games. LINCOLN CITY drew 1-1 away to Shrewsbury and that is goal number 34 for them. SOUTHEND drew 0-0 at home to Tranmere and that is their ninth blank of the season after a goal run of six games.

LEAGUE TWO
We have three teams here in the Play-Off zone and they are PLYMOUTH moved up to fifth place after they won 3-0 away to Carlisle. Plymouth are now on 46 goals. BRADFORD CITY are down to sixth place after they lost 2-1 away to Crawley. Bradford are now on 34 goals. FOREST GREEN ROVERS are up to seventh place as they win 4-3 away to MANSFIELD. Rovers are now on a total of 38 goals while Mansfield are now on 39. LEYTON ORIENT drew 1-1 at home to Grimsby and that is goal number 34 for them while OLDHAM after a two game dry spell for goals, drew 1-1 away to Macclesfield and they are now on 30 goals. SALFORD CITY lost 2-1 at home to Northampton and they are now on 35 goals. SCUNTHORPE are on 36 goals as they lost 2-1 at home to Newport. 

SCOTTISH RESULTS
As the Premiership start their winter break, we are left with just five of our Scottish teams in action this weekend.
In League One, RAITH ROVERS are still on top after they drew 1-1 away to Forfar. Rovers are now on a total of 44 goals. FALKIRK have moved up to second place after they won 3-1 away to PETERHEAD. Falkirk are now on a total of 48 goals while Peterhead picked up goal number 28 and have extended their goal run to seven games.
In League Two, Cove Rangers are still top after their game was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. STENHOUSEMUIR drew 2-2 at home to Brechin and they are now on a total of 26 goals.

Our on form team this weekend is MANCHESTER CITY after they have scored in all of their last eighteen games. They have a total of 78 goals which gives them an average score of 2.8 goals per game.

Our worst team this week is FOREST GREEN ROVERS. They have picked up a total of thirteen blank score sheets in thirty-two games played. Rovers have scored eight goals in their last nine games. They have a total of 38 goals and two votes.

Our highest goal scorers in our 37th Season is LEICESTER CITY from Week Thirteen as the beat Southampton 9-0 away in the league.  

It’s all change at the top again this week as BARBARA BARNES (1) becomes the fourth player to reach the top. Barbara picked up a total of eleven goals over the week with seven of them coming from the weekend. Barbara has Celtic, Leicester City and Manchester City. Guy Dowsett has moved back down to second place this weekend and only on goal difference as he picks up nine goals from Manchester City this week. His other teams are Celtic, Cove Rangers who both did not play this weekend.
At the other end at 123 The SAINT has remained at the bottom, as he picks up five goals for the week. This now means that The Saint has been at the bottom for a total of seventeen weeks so far this season. His teams are once again Barnsley, Sheffield United  and Sheffield Wednesday.
