Week Twenty-Eight

In Week Twenty-Eight of the competition we had two winners this weekend to share the £6 in cash prize money. Our winners won on a score of 8 goals and they are two ladies this week. Our winners are SAM LEGHORN and SARAH MARSHALL. The good news is that Sam becomes our 30th winner of the season as Sarah picked up her third win of the season. Sarah last won some cash back in Week Twenty-One she has still had just three blank score sheets and this week we see Sarah at her highest position to date. She becomes the second player to pick up three or more wins this season. Sam has become our sixth lady to win this season and this is her second season with Golden Goals. Last season Sam finished in the winning frame in 18th place with a total of 304 goals. This season, with her first weekend win ever, Sam as been as high as tenth place in Week Four and she has picked up three blank score sheets. Our winning teams are

Sam CELTIC –, LEICESTER CITY 5, MANCHESTER CITY 3

Sarah  LEICESTER CITY 5, MANCHESTER CITY 3, RANGERS -

100 MIDWEEK GOALS

Most of us once again picked up some goals this week but the race for the cash is now over for this season. In the end the 100 Midweek Goals Prize money of £40 was shared between RAYMOND HARROD and CHRIS SETFORD as both of them had Manchester City who scored five goals in their combo. Ray needed just two goals to win the cash as he was on 98 goals last week with Chris in second place needing five with his total of 95goals. So congratulation to the both of you and here is how the race for the cash finished. Ray and Chris will have their name in our record books for winning the cash in the shortest time of just 28 weeks. This beats the record of 31 weeks from the 2016/17 Season by Daryl Nicholls. So here is the top six and how they finished. RAYMOND HARROD finished top with a total of 104 goals. His teams are Brentford, Celtic and Manchester City. CHRIS SETFORD finished in second place with 100 goals. In third place was MARK GREGORY and SANSA-CLARA-LYANNA both with a total of 99 goals. In fourth place both with 98 goals we had MICHAEL JACOBSON and JAMES SOMERVILLE. In fifth place we had A&A. CLARK and MALCOLM STUBBS both with a total of 97 goals. In sixth place we had DEAN ZANIOUS with 96 goals. But the midweek goals does not stop here. We are now looking to beat the highest midweek score of 136 goals and for the number of players to reach 100 midweek goals this season.

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had a total of eighteen of our teams without a game over the weekend with another sixteen that failed to score any goals. With that, the bad news is that 14 players failed to pick up any goals this weekend. We still seem to pick up more goals in midweek than the weekend. This weekends average score moved up from one of last weekend to 3 goals this weekend. The Highest score that we had over the weekend was five goals and they came from the Premier League where LEICESTER CITY won 5-0 at home to bottom of the table Sheffield United. Leicester are no won a total of 61 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games.

Leicester became our 64th voted English team but they did not start till our fifth season of 1987/88. In their first season they finished on a total of 68 goals. Their highest end of season score came in the 2013/14 Season with 98 goals. Last season they finished with 83 goals. This is their 17th Season with Golden Goals and over the years they have now scored a total of 1248 goals which gives them an average score of 73 goals per season.  Leicester are currently in third place in the league and they have picked up a total of six blank score sheets. They have just two votes this time round.
