Week Nine

Here we are with Week Nine of the competition and we had our ninth winner of the season, winning on a score of 10 goals. That player was BARRY BURROUGHS who picks up the full £6 cash prize money this weekend. Barry started with us back in the 2010/11 Season on where he finished in the winning frame in 20th place with a total of 284 goals. He had one weekend shared win. Last season he finished in 104th place with 228 goals. Barry once again had one shared weekend win. This season, this weekend Barry has picked up his personal best weekend score and he has not yet had any blank score sheets. This is the highest that Barry has been to date. His teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

We had a total of three players that picked up the most number of goals this week with six goals each. They are STEVE AYRES, JOHN FILTNESS and RYAN FC. The race for the cash is getting a bit interesting now as LOUIE HARRINGTON remains in front with PAUL MORAN (Mango) and BOB SAWYER both up from two last week. They are all on a total of 32 goals. In second place this week we have LINDA ADKINS and now joining her up from three is JED WEARDEN both have a total of 31 goals. In third place we still have BRADLEY CLARK and RICKY MILES but they are now joined with RAYMOND HARROD and MICK LIDDLE both up from four all with a total of 30 goals each. In fourth place we still have MARK JOHNSTON and GRANT PHILLIPS and they are now with STEVE REEVE up from five and CHRIS SETFORD. All have a total of 29 goals. In fifth place we still have a total of eight players all on 28 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

This weekend we had twelve of our teams without a game over the weekend with another twelve that failed to score any goals. The good news is that we all managed to pick up some goals from our combo’s. The average score for this weekend was down to just 3 goals. The Highest score over the weekend was five goals and they went to League One where PETERBOROUGH picked up their highest result of the season as they win 5-1 at home to Shrewsbury. Borough have now scored in all of their last seven games and they are now on a total of 19 goals.  Peterborough became our 90th voted English team when they first started with Golden Goals back in the 1997/98 Season where they finished on a total of 73 goals. Their highest end of season goals total came in the 2010/11 Season with 129 goals. Last season they finished on 76 goals. This is Borough’s 15th Season with us and this is their eighth consecutive season. Over the years they have scored a total of 1165 goals which gives them an average score of 77 goals per season. This season they have a total of thirteen votes and have picked up a total of three blank score sheets to date. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Last seasons Champions LIVERPOOL are now top of the Premier League after they won 2-1 at home to WEST HAM after going a goal down. Liverpool are now on a total of 24 goals and they have now scored in all of their last four games. West Ham although they are slipping down the league, are now on a total of 22 goals and have extended their goal run to nine games. TOTTENHAM have moved into second place after they won 2-1 at home to BRIGHTON. Tottenham are now on a total of 19 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. Brighton picked up goal number 17. EVERTON are now down to third place after they lost 2-1 away to Newcastle. Everton picked up goal number 27. ASTON VILLA lost 4-3 at home to Southampton and they are on 21 goals. MANCHESTER CITY won 1-0 away to Sheffield United and that is their 14th goal of the season. CHELSEA are now on 23 goals as they win 3-0 away to Burnley. ARSENAL won 1-0 away to MANCHESTER UNITED to pick up goal number 11 after a two game dry spell. United picked up their second blank of the season and two in a row. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Reading are still top here after their two games in midweek. SWANSEA have moved into second place after they won 2-0 at home to Blackburn. Swansea are now on a total of 12 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. BOURNEMOUTH are in third place after they drew 1-1 at home to DERBY. Bournemouth are now on 13 goals to Derby’s six. WATFORD picked up their third blank of the season after they lost 1-0 away to Barnsley. NORWICH won 3-1 away to BRISTOL CITY and that has taken their goals tally to 13 while City hit goal number 18. BRENTFORD have extended their goal run to eleven games as they win 3-0 away to LUTON and they are now on a total of 24 goals. Luton picked up their fifth blank score sheet of the season. MIDDLESBROUGH won their fourth league game with a 1-0 home win against NOTTINGHAM FOREST. Brough are now on a total of 13 goals. Forest picked up their fifth blank of the season. BIRMINGHAM won 2-1 away to PRESTON and they are now on 7 goals while Preston are now on 17 goals. CARDIFF lost 3-2 away to QPR and they are now on a total of 9 goals and have now scored in all of their last five games. STOKE won 1-0 at home to ROTHERHAM and they are now on 13 goals while Rotherham picked up their third blank score sheet. 

LEAGUE ONE

Peterborough are now on top after their big win with LINCOLN CITY down to third place after they lost 1-0 away to Doncaster to get their second blank of the season. It’s 20 goals for FLEETWOOD TOWN as they won 2-0 at home to OXFORD UNITED. Oxford picked up their fifth blank score sheet and now two in a row. SUNDERLAND won 2-0 away to Gillingham and they are now on 12 goals. CREWE lost 1-0 away to Ipswich and that is their fifth blank score sheet and now two in a row. CHARLTON won 2-0 away to PORTSMOUTH and they are now on 14 goals and a goal run of five games. Portsmouth picked up their fifth blank of the season. After a dry spell of three games without a goal, SWINDON won 2-1 at home to HULL and they are on 11 goals. Hull are on 18 goals and have extended their goal run to twelve games. It’s 10 for WIGAN as they lost 3-2 at home to Northampton. 

LEAGUE TWO

CHELTENHAM are our highest team here still in third place after they won 2-1 at home against Forest Green. Cheltenham are now on a total of 17 goals. EXETER won 1-0 at home to Carlisle and they are now on 15 goals. BOLTON lost 4-0 away to Leyton Orient. That is Bolton’s fifth blank fo the season. HARROGATE TOWN lost 2-1 away to Newport and that is goal number 12 for them. SALFORD CITY won 2-0 at home to Oldham and they are now on a total of 15 goals. SOUTHEND remain bottom of the league after they lost 2-0 at home against Port Vale. That is their seventh blank of the season and just one goal in their last five games. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership, just one result for us where RANGERS won 1-0 away to Kilmarnock and they are now on a total of 29 goals and a goal run of nine games. They are now nine points clear of rivals Celtic.

In League One, with a very late goal, COVE RANGERS are still top after they won 1-0 at home to Partick. Rangers are now on a total of 9 goals and a goal run of five. In second place is still FALKIRK after they won 2-0 at home against East Fife and they are now on 11 goals.

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR drew 1-1 away to Cowdenbeath. Stenhousemuir are now on a total of 8 goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week with Golden Goals. They are 

RANGERS (29) CELTIC (28) EVERTON (27) Total of 84 goals 

OUR WORST THREE TEAMS ARE 

SOUTHEND (5) SCUNTHORPE (5) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (5) Total of 15 goals 

Our Best team is MANCHESTER CITY after scoring in all of their eight league games keeping their 100% record with a total of 14 goals. They are on an average score of 1.7 goals per game. 

Our worst team this weekend is SOUTHEND who have scored just one goal in their last five games played. 

SOUTHEND and TRANMERE ROVERS have both picked up the most number of blank score sheets with seven out of eleven games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 38th Season are ASTON VILLA as they win 7-2 home against Champions LIVERPOOL in the league in Week Five and LIVERPOOL , they won 7-2 away to LINCOLN CITY in the Carabao Cup in Round Three from Week Four. 

JED WEARDEN has moved to the top this weekend, to become our fifth player to reach the top spot. Jed picked up a single goal in midweek and another six goals at the weekend. Jed’s teams are Brentford, Liverpool and Rangers. He is now one goal in front of Bob Sawyer who has moved into second place.

At the other end at 116 we now have Jacqui Rattle has remained there for her second weekend. Jacqui picked up four goals from the week with her teams of  Arsenal, Manchester City and Wolves.
