Week Seventeen

In Week Seventeen of the competition, we had our Christmas Weekend  Jackpot of £10 and that all went to MICK LIDDLE, who has now become our sixteenth winner of the season.  Mick won the cash with a total of 10 goals. Mick has been with Golden Goals for twenty-four seasons now as he started with us back in the 1996/97 Season. In that season he finished in 92nd place with 206 goals. He did manage to pick up one weekend worth £2. Last season Mick finished in the winning frame in 11th place with a total of 311goals and £20 in cash. This season, he has been as high as fifth place in Weeks Three and Four. Mick has picked up just one blank score sheet at the weekend and his best team is Lincoln City. His winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS 

All of us picked up some goals this week once again and it has changed the order in the race for the cash, once again. It was GRENT PHILLIPS that picked up the most number of midweek goals with a total of ten goals. His teams are Chelsea,  Manchester City and Rangers. So here are the top five places this week. In the lead this week we have me, STEVE REEVE moving up from fifth place with a total of 47 goals. My combo is Brentford, Manchester City and Rangers picked up a total of eight goals. In second place we still have JED WEARDEN but he is now joined with PAUL MORAN (Mango) up from four. Both are now on a total of 46 goals. In third place we have TONY KING and ALICE STUBBS moving down from two with SANA-CARLA-LYANNA moving up from four. Coming back in we have RAYMOND HARROD and TIM WOOD all of them on a total of 45 goals. In fourth place we now have BOB SAWYER down from three. EMMA SAWYER up from five and CHRIS SETFORD moves back into the race. All are on a total of 44 goals. In fifth place all on a total of 43 goals we have RYAN FC down from one. KEITH THOMSON down from four with ANDY EYLES, DANIEL HUGHES,GRANT PHILLIPS, RICHARD WILLIAMS and DEAN ZANIOUS all coming back in. 

WEEKEND RESULTS 

This weekend it seems that the coronavirus has finally reached some of our teams this weekend and games were cancelled. We therefor had nine of our teams without a game over the weekend with another eight that failed to score any goals. The good news is that we all managed to pick up some goals from our combo’s, which means that this weekends average score went up from four of last weekend to 5 goals this week. The Highest score over the weekend was five goals and they came from HEARTS and LINCOLN CITY. Hearts from the Scottish Championship, are top of the league as they won 5-3 at home to Ayr United. Hearts have taken their goals tally up to 34. Lincoln City from League One are also top of the league after they won 5-1 at home to Burton Albion. Lincoln are now on a total of 44 goals. 

PREMIER LEAGUE 

So LIVERPOOL are still top this week after they drew 1-1 at home to WEST BROM.  Liverpool are on a total of 44 goals and they have now scored in all of their last twelve games. West Brom who are now second from bottom, picked up goal number 16. EVERTON are now in second place after they won 1-0 away to Sheffield United. Everton are on a total of 38 goals. LEICESTER CITY are in third place as they drew 2-2 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED in fourth place. Leicester are now on 28 goals while United are on 38 goals. It’s 30 goals for TOTTENHAM after they drew 1-1 away to WOLVES. Wolves are on 15 goals. ASTON VILLA pick up another three goals as they win 3-0 at home to Crystal palace. Villa are now on a total of 33 goals. FULHAM picked up their eighth blank of the season after they drew 0-0 at home to Southampton. ARSENAL won 3-1 at home to London rivals CHELSEA. Arsenal have taken their goals total to 18 while Chelsea are on 37. It’s 30 goals for MANCHESTER CITY as they win 2-0 at home against Newcastle. LEEDS UNITED are on 26 goals as they win 1-0 at home to Burnley. WEST HAM drew 2-2 at home against BRIGHTON and they are on 32 goals while Brighton are on 24 goals. 

CHAMPIONSHIP 

NORWICH are still top here after they lost their fourth league game in 2, 1-0 away to WATFORD. After a goal run of ten games, Norwich picked up their fourth blank of the season. Watford who are now in fifth place, picked up goal number 26. SWANSEA have moved up to second place as they win 2-0 away to Q.P.R. Swansea are on a total of 25 goals. BRENTFORD are now in fourth place after they won 3-2 away to CARDIFF. Brentford are now on 43 goals and have now scored in all of their last five games. Cardiff are on 28 goals. BRISTOL CITY won 2-1 at home to Wycombe and they are on 28 goals after they had failed to score in their previous three games. STOKE drew 0-0 away to Coventry and that is their eighth blank of the season. DERBY lost 1-0 at home to PRESTON and that is their twelfth blank while Preston hit goal number 34. NOTTINGHAM FOREST drew 0-0 at home to BIRMINGHAM to pick up their eleventh blank score sheet to Birmingham’s ninth. READING won 2-1 at home to LUTON and they are now on a total of 35 goals and they have now scored in all of their last ten games. Luton after a two game dry spell for goals, are now on 22.  

LEAGUE ONE 

With Lincoln City now top, Portsmouth have moved down to second place after their game was cancelled. Hull remained in third place this week. CHARLTON drew 2-2 at home to PLYMOUTH and they are on 32 goals to Plymouths 33. CREWE drew 1-1 at home to FLEETWOOD TOWN. Crewe have scored a total of 30 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. Fleetwood are on 35 goals. OXFORD UNITED won 2-0 at home to AFC Wimbledon and they are on a total of 25 goals. WIGAN drew 1-1 at home to Shrewsbury and they are on 21 goals and second from bottom. 

LEAGUE TWO 

CHELTENHAM are our highest team here still in fourth place after they drew 1-1 at home to Stevenage. Cheltenham after no goals in their last three games are now on 37. BOLTON have picked up another three goals as they drew 3-3 away to Carlisle and have taken their goals tally to 28 goals. EXETER have extended their goal run to fifteen games after they drew 1-1 at home to Forest Green. HARROGATE TOWN won 2-1 away to Oldham and are now on a total of 24 goals. SALFORD CITY won 2-0 at home to Walsall and they are on 29 goals. SCUNTHORPE lost 3-2 at home to Mansfield and they are on 22 goals. SOUTHEND have won their fourth league game, 2-0 at home to Colchester. Southend are now on a total of 16 goals. TRANMERE ROVERS lost 1-0 at home to Bradford City and that is their ninth blank of the season. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES 

In the WILLIAM HILL SCOTTISH CUP First Round, we had just one team in this round. They were STENHOUSEMUIR and they won 4-1 at home to non-league Preston Athletic. With their biggest result of the season, Stenhousemuir are now on a total of 22 goals. 

In the Premiership, RANGERS won just 1-0 at home to Hibernian Rangers have still remained top and they are now on a total of 60 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eighteen games. CELTIC in second place still 16 points behind Rangers, won 3-0 away to Hamilton. Celtic are now on a total of 42 goals.  ABERDEEN are still in third place after they won 2-1 at home against St Johnstone. Aberdeen are now on a total of 28 goals. MOTHERWELL drew 1-1 away to Dundee United and they are on a total of 24 goals. 

In League One, FALKIRK have remained on top here after they drew 0-0 at home to Partick. That is now their fourth blank of the season and now two in a row. COVE RANGERS have moved up to fourth place after they won 1-0 away to Forfar. Rangers are now on a total of 18 goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week with Golden Goals. They are

OUR WORST THREE TEAMS ARE 

DERBY (11) NOTTINGHAM FOREST (14) WOLVES (15) Total of 40 goals 

Our Best team this week are RANGERS after they have now scored in all of their last eighteen league/cup games. 

Our worst team this weekend is DERBY who have scored just five goals in their last eleven games played. 

DERBY have picked up the most number of blank score sheets with twelve out of their twenty-two league/cup games. Our highest goal scorers in our 38th Season are RANGERS their 8-0 win at home against Hamilton in the league in Week Ten.

JED WEARDEN has remained at the top this weekend after he picked up a total of nine goals this week. Jed has now been at the top for a total of eight weeks and now two in a row. His teams are once again Brentford, Liverpool and Rangers. Keith Thomson is still in second place and now seven goals behind Jed. Keith picked up a total of five goals this week and his teams are Bournemouth, Liverpool and Rangers. 

At the other end at 116 we now have John Nicholls who now becomes our seventh player to land there this season. Johns teams picked up just three goals this week from his teams of Bristol City, Fulham and West Brom.  

No major change in the top ten going in to the New Year.
