Last Games of 2024

In the very last games of 2024 in the Premier League, IPSWICH TOWN won their third league game 2-0 at home against CHELSEA. Ipswich are on a total of 20 goals after they had failed to score in their previous 2 league games. Chelsea picked up their fourth blank of the season. ASTON VILLA drew 2-2 at home to Brighton and are on a total of 31 goals. MANCHESTER UNITED who are having a very disappointing season, lost their ninth league game, 2-0 at home to NEWCASTLE UNITED. United picked up their eighth blank of the season and now 3 games without a goal. Newcastle are on 39 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. 

In League Two, it’s 40 goals for AFC WIMBELDON after they won 1-0 at home to Gillingham.

Week Twenty-One

 

In Week Twenty-One of the competition, and it’s the start of the second half of the season here at Golden Goals.  we had our Christmas Jackpot of £10 to give to this weekend’s lucky winner. That went to SCOTT THOMSON (1) which now means that we have had a total of 23 winners this season. Scott won on a score of 12 goals which is his personal best.

Scott started with Golden Goals back in the 2006/07 Season on where he finished in the winning frame in 17th place with a total of 261 goals. Since a few season’s back, Scott has had 2 combinations each season. Last season they both finished in the winning frame. His his first selection finished in 7th place with 319 goals and his second finished in 26th place with 305 goals. He also picked up a Rollover at the weekend. 100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

All but one of us managed to pick up some goals during midweek on Boxing Day, so the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has changed again from last week. The highest score went to DAVE SOMERVILLE our 2009/10 Champion with 12 goals. They came from Bromley, Celtic and Liverpool

Back out in front this week we have BARBARA BARNES (2) now with a total of 50 goals, which means that she is at the half-way point to the jackpot of £25. Her teams are Celtic, Falkirk and Manchester United. In second place we have last weeks leader ALFIE DIMMOCK now with a total of 48 goals. In third place we still have MARTIN CORBETT now with a total of 47 goals. In fourth place up from five we have RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 Champion with 45 goals. In fifth place we have back in, STEVE STUBBS (2) with a total of 43 goals. We then have a total of six players all on a total of 42 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 9 of our teams without a game this weekend and another 10 of teams that failed to score any goals. Although some of our top teams did not play over the weekend we really had a good weekend once again. The average score this weekend, moved down one from last weeks six, to 5 goals. So if you have done better than that? Well done.

The highest score over the weekend was 5 goals once again and they came from the Premier League LIVERPOOL and from League Two, NOTTS COUNTY. Here are the rest of the weekend results from our last league fixture for 2024. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table LIVERPOOL won 5-0 away to WEST HAM UNITED. Liverpool have taken their goals total to 55 and have now scored in all of their last 17 league/cup games. West Ham after a goal run of 7 league/cup games, picked up their fourth blank of the season. MANCHESTER CITY won 2-0 away to LEICESTER CITY and are on a total of 35 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. Leicester picked up their fifth blank of the season. CRYSTAL PALACE won 2-1 at home to bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON. Palace are on a total of 30 goals, while Southampton after they had failed to score in their last 2 league games, picked up goal number 22. AFC BOURNEMOUTH drew 2-2 away to Fulham and are on a total of 26 goals. TOTTENHAM drew 2-2 at home to Wolves and are on a total of 49 goals. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

LEEDS UNITED go back to the top after they won 1-0 away to Derby and are on a total of 44 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. SHEFFIELD UNITED are down to second place after they drew 1-1 to WBA, United are on a total of 37 goals. NORWICH CITY drew 1-1 at home to QPR and are on a total of 44 goals. PRESTON NE won 3-1 at home against Sheffield Wednesday and are now on a total of 34 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. PORTSMOUTH lost 3-0 away to Bristol City and picked up their ninth blank of the season. MILLWALL drew 0-0 away to Coventry and that is also their ninth blank of the season. OXFORD UNITED won 2-0 at home to Plymouth and are on a total of 28 goals. SWANSEA CITY won 2-1 at home to LUTON TOWN and are on a total of 32 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. Luton picked up goal number 27. BIRMINGHAM CITY are still in second place after they drew 0-0 at home to BLACKPOOL. After a goal run of 13 league/cup games, City picked up their third blank of the season. Blackpool picked up their seventh blank score sheet. WREXHAM are in third place after they won 2-1 at home to Wigan. Wrexham are on a total of 37 goals and have now scored in all of their last 8 league/cup games. CHARLTON won 2-1 at home to Wycombe and are on a total of 35 goals. BOLTON won 3-0 at home to Lincoln City and are now on a total of 37 goals. HUDDERSFIELD TOWN drew 1-1 at home to Burton and picked up goal number 41. PETERBOROUGH UNITED lost 3-1 at home to BARNSLEY and are on a total of 47 goals. Barnsley are on 39 goals. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we now have in this league is now NOTTS COUNTY in second place after they won 5-3 away to Cheltenham. County are now on a total of 46 goals. DONCASTER ROVERS remain in third place after they drew 1-1 away to Colchester and are on a total of 37 goals. BROMLEY drew 1-1 at home to Swindon and are on a total of 38 goals. CHESTERFIELD lost 2-1 away to Bradford and picked up goal number 41. MK DONS drew 1-1 at home to Crewe and are on a total of 34 goals. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES 

In the Premiership, Champions CELTIC remained top this week after they won 4-0 at home to St Johnstone. Celtic have now taken their goals tally to 69. RANGERS remain in second place after they drew 2-2 away to Motherwell. Rangers are on a total of 41 goals and have now scored in all of their last 12 league/cup games. KILMARNOCK lost 1-0 away to Hibernian and picked up their eighth blank of the season. ROSS COUNTY drew 2-2 at home to HEARTS and are on a total of 29 goals, while Hearts are on 23 goals. After they had failed to score in their previous 3 games, DUNDEE won 2-1 away to St Mirren and are on a total of 53 goals. 

In League One, STENHOUSEMUIR are in second place after they won 3-1 away to Alloa. Stenhousemuir are now on a total of 38 goals. COVE RANGERS picked up their biggest result of the season as they win 4-1 away to Inverness CT and have taken their goals total to 35. 

In League Two PETERHEAD are down to second place after they lost 2-0 away to Elgin City. Peterhead after a goal run of 9 league/cup games, picked up their seventh blank of the season. CLYDE drew 1-1 away to Stranraer and are on a total of 33 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games.

Our worst performing team is still STENHOUSEMUIR this weekend as they have had a total of 10th blank score sheet from 24 league/cup games. They have a total of 38 goals. 

Our highest goal-scoring teams in our 42nd Season are MANCHESTER UNITED after they won 7-0 at home to BARNSLEY in the Carabao/League Cup 3rd Round in Week Seven. DUNDEE won 7-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish League Cup in the very first game in the first round group stages.

JED WEARDEN has remained at the top for his third weekend and now four over the season. Jed picked up a total of 17 goals from the week and his teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Peterborough. Geoff Dockerill our 1994/95 Champion, has remained in second place, as his teams picked up a total of 17 goals from the week. Geoff’s teams are Arsenal, Celtic, and Liverpool.

At the other end at 114 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY with his seventh consecutive weekend. Charlie’s teams picked up 12 goals from the weekend. His teams are Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.

Arsenal Move to Second Place

In the Premier League ARSENAL move up to second place after they won 1-0 at home to IPSWICH TOWN. Arsenal are on a total of 46 goals while Ipswich picked up their seventh blank and now 2 games without a goal. 

In the Scottish Championship, FALKIRK are still top after they drew their third league game 3-3 away to Dunfermline. Falkirk are now on a total of 55 goals and have extended their goal run to 6 league/cup games.

Boxing Day Results

 

It was not the sort of Boxing Day results that we were hoping for, but here they all are. In the Premier League, leaders LIVERPOOL won 3-1 at home to LEICESTER CITY and are now on a total of 50 goals and have now exended their goal run to 16 league/cup games. Leicester are on 28 goals after they had failed in their previous 2 games. Second place CHELSEA lost 2-1 at home to Fulham and are on a total of 43 goals. MANCHESTER CITY drew 1-1 at home to Everton and are on a total of 33 goals and a goal run of 5 league/cup games. AFC BOURNEMOUTH drew 0-0 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE and picked up their fifth blank of the season after a goal run of 11 league/cup games. Palace picked up their sixth after a goal run of 7 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE won 3-0 at home to ASTON VILLA and are now on a total of 37 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. Villa picked up their fifth blank of the season. TOTTENHAM picked up their fourth blank score sheet after they lost 1-0 away to Nottingham Forest. Bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON lost 1-0 at home to WEST HAM UNITED. Southampton have now had a total of nine blank score sheets and now 2 in a row. They have scored just 1 goal in their last 5 league/cup games. In the Scottish Premiership, I think we can say now, that CELTIC are Champions once again. They won 4-0 at home against Motherwell to win their 15th league game out of 17. Celtic have taken their goals tally to 65. RANGERS have remained in second place 12 points behind Celtic now, after they lost 2-1 away to St Mirren. Rangers picked up goal number 39 and have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games. HEARTS lost 2-1 at home to Hibernian and are on a total of 21 goals. DUNDEE lost 3-0 at home to ROSS COUNTY and picked up their sixth blank and now they have failed to score in their last 3 games. County are now on a total of 27 goals. KILMARNOCK picked up their biggest result to date after they won 4-0 at home to Aberdeen and have taken their goals total to 23.

Week Twenty

 

In Week Twenty of the competition, it’s half time here at Golden Goals.  So we have another 20+ weeks to get through before we know who will be our 42nd Champion. We had just one winner to take the full Weekend Prize Money of £5.  They were MARTIN CORBETT which now means that we have had a total of 22 winners. Martin won on a score of 15 goals,

Martin started with Golden Goals in the 2017/18 Season, which is our biggest season to date, on where he finished in 128th place with a total of 239 goals. He also picked up one weekend win that season. Last season he finished in 56th place with 293 goals. This season  we can see Martin at his highest position to date and this weekend with his personal best score. He has had 3 blank weekend score sheets and Liverpool is his best team., Martin’s winning teams are

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 6 of our teams without a game this weekend and another 12 of teams that failed to score any goals. Despite some of our top teams not performing well over the weekend we really had a good weekend. The average score this weekend, moved up from last weeks five, to 6 goals. So if you have done better than that? Well done. The highest score over the weekend was 6 goals once again and they came from the Premier League LIVERPOOL after they won 6-3 away to Tottenham.

Liverpool became our most voted team in our very first season back in 1983/84. In that season they finished on a total of 103 goals. Their biggest end of season score came in 1985/86 with 127 goals. Last season they finished on a total of 113. Liverpool have hit 100 or more goals in 8 of their 42 season’s to date. Over the years they have netted a total of 3,544 goals which gives them an average score of 84.3 goals per season. The highest team that we now have in this league is DONCASTER ROVERS in third place. They won 3-1 at home to Tranmere Rovers and have taken their goals tally up to 36 goals. It’s 40 goals for CHESTERFIELD after they won 1-0 at home to AFC WIMBLEDON. After a goal run of 5 games, Wimbledon picked up their eighth blank of the season. In the Championship, LUTON TOWN won 2-1 at home against Derby County. Luton are on a total of 26 goals.

Carabao/League Cup Quarter-Final

In the last game in the quarter-finals, TOTTENHAM won 4-3 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED, Tottenham have now taken their goals total to 44 while United are now on a total of 36 goals. So now we have all four teams in the semi-finals. Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham.

Carabao/League Cup Quarter-Finals

 

In the Caraboa/League Cup quarter-finals, we had 5 of our teams in action and out of them only 3 have made it to the semi-finals. They are Premier league leaders LIVERPOOL who could only win 2-1 away to bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON. Liverpool are on a total of 41 goals and have extended their goal run to 14 league/cup games. After they had failed to score in their last 2 league games, Southampton picked up their 21st goal of the season. ARSENAL won 3-2 at home to CRYSTAL PALACE and are now on a total of 40 goals, while Palace are on 27 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE won 3-1 at home to Brentford and are now on a total of 30 goals and have scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games.

In the Scottish League Two PETERHEAD have moved down to second place after they drew 1-1 away to Forfar and are on a total of 36 goals and have extended their goal run to 8 league/cup games. It’s 30 goals for CLYDE after they lost 4-2 away to Elgin City.

Week Nineteen

 

In Week Nineteen of the competition we had another 2 players to share the Weekend Prize Money of £5 once again. They are GEOFF CARTHY and STUART KEMP (2) which now means that we have had a total of 21 winners as one of them have already won some cash this season. Both won on a score of 11 goals,

It is Geoff that has won twice now this season. The last time was in Week Fourteen on 11 goals. With another 11 goals, this is still his personal best weekend score. Geoff has just picked up 2 blank weekend score sheets. Celtic is still his best team.

Stuart won with his second combination and he started with Golden Goals back in the 2012/13 our 30th season and finished on a score of 251 goals in 64th place. Stuart for a while now, have had 2 combinations. Last season his first one finished in 87th place with 276 goals while his second finished in 73rd place with 283 goals. This season his second this weekend, is his highest to date. This is his personal best weekend score and he has picked up a total of 3 blank weekend score sheets. Peterborough is his best team. 100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Under half of us managed to pick up some goals during midweek, so the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has changed again from last weeks leaders. The highest score went to VINCENT CRUICKSHANK and ANN WELLARD with 4 goals each.  

Still out in front this week we have ALFIE DIMMOCK up from three with a total of 41 goals. His teams are  Arsenal, Bolton and Leeds United. BARBARA BARNES (2) moves down to second place still with that total of 40 goals. In third place down from two we have DAVID BARRETT on a total of 39 goals. In fourth place we still have RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 joint Champion now with a total of 38 goals. In fifth place we have KEAMUS SETNA our 2005/06 Champion and MARK UNSTEAD both on a total of 37 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 4 of our teams without a game this weekend and another 14 of teams that failed to score any goals. The week has not really been kind to us. The average score this weekend, remains as last weekend score of just 5 goals. So if you have done better than that? Well done.

The highest score over the weekend was 5 goals and they came from  the Premier League TOTTENHAM who won 5-0 away to bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON. With their highest score of the season, Tottenham have taken their goals tally up to 40 goals. Southampton picked up their seventh blank of the season and 2 in a row.

Tottenham became our 10th English team to join Golden Goals back in our very first season of 1983/84. In the first season they netted a total of 71 goals. Their highest score of 109 goals were reached in the 1986/87 and 2016/17 seasons. Last season they finished on a total of 76 goals. This is their 41st season with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 3032 goals which gives them an average score of 73.9 goals per season to date. This season they have picked up a total of 3 blank weekend score sheets and they have a total of 7 votes this season. Here are the weekend results. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table LIVERPOOL drew 2-2 at home against Fulham. Liverpool are on a total of 39 goals and have now scored in all of their last 13 league/cup games. CHELSEA are still in second place after they won 2-1 at home to Brentford. Chelsea are on a total of 42 goals and they have now scored in all of their 7 league/cup games. In third place, after they had scored in all of their last 5 games, ARSENAL drew 0-0 at home to Everton and picked up their third blank of the season. In the Manchester derby, MANCHESTER CITY lost their fifth league game, 2-1 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED. City are on a total of 31 goals while United are on 33. CRYSTAL PALACE won 3-1 away to Brighton and are now on a total of 25 goals, and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE picked up their biggest result of the season after they won 4-0 at home to LEIESTER CITY.  Newcastle have taken their goals tally to 27 goals while Leicester picked up their third blank of the season. IPSWICH TOWN won 2-1 away to Wolves and are on a total of 18 goals. ASTON VILLA lost 2-1 away to Nottingham Forest and picked up gaol number 27. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

SHEFFIELD UNITED are still on top after they won 2-0 at home to Plymouth and are on a total of 34 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. LEEDS UNITED are in second place after they drew 1-1 away to PRESTON NE. Leeds are on a total of 37 goals while Preston hit goal number 29. LUTON TOWN lost 2-0 away to Blackburn and picked up their fifth blank of the season. MIDDLESBROUGH won 1-0 at home to MILLWALL and are on a total of 38 goals. Millwall picked up their tird consecutive blank score sheet and now 8 over the season. OXFORD UNITED lost 3-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday and are on a total of 23 goals. SWANSEA CITY lost 3-2 at home to Sunderland and are on a total of 26 goals and a goal run of 6 league/cup games. NORWICH CITY lost 2-1 at home to BURNLEY and are on a total of 40 goals. Burnley are on 26 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

BIRMINGHAM CITY are now in second place after they won 2-0 at home to Bristol Rovers and are on a total of 38 goals and have a goal run of 11 league/cup games. BOLTON lost 2-0 at home to Wigan and picked up their seventh blank of the season. CHARLTON drew 0-0 at home to Mansfield Town and that is their sixth blank of the season and now 2 blanks in a row. BARNSLEY won 2-1 at home to Exeter City and are on a total of 34 goals. HUDDERSFIELD drew 2-2 at home to Lincoln City and are on a total of 37 goals. PETERBOROUGH won 4-2 at home against Crawley Town and are now on a total of 45 goals. BLACKPOOL won 3-0 away to Reading and are now on a total of 41 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. WREXHAM drew 2-2 at home to Cambridge United and are on a total of 32 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we now have in this league is AFC WIMBLEDON in fourth place. They won 1-0 at home to DONCASTER ROVERS and are on a total of 38 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. Rovers picked up their sixth blank of the season. NOTTS COUNTY lost 3-0 away to Salford City and that is their sixth blank of the season. BROMLEY drew 0-0 at home to Port Vale and have now had a total of 3 blank score sheets after a goal run of 10 league/cup games. CHESTERFIELD won 2-0 away to Carlisle United and are on a total of 39 goals. MK DONS lost 1-0 at home to Gillingham and picked up their seventh blank score sheet. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES 

Scottish League Cup Final

It was yet another cup final of the old firm teams CELTIC and RANGERS. The score was 3-3 after the full 90 minutes and that remained 3-3 after extra time. Celtic then won 5-4 on penalties. Celtic are now on a total of 61 goals and keep their 100% scoring record after a total of 19 league/cup games. Rangers are now on a total of 37 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. 

In the Premiership, Celtic remain top even though they had no league game this week. ROSS COUNTY lost 3-1 away to Hibernian and are on a total of 23 goals. KILMARNOCK won 1-0 at home to HEARTS and are on a total of 18 goals. Hearts picked up their picked up their sixth blank of the season. 

In the Championship, top of the table FALKIRK lost their third league game, 5-2 away to Ayr Utd. Falkirk are on a total of 51 goals. 

In League One, STENHOUSEMUIR move down to second place after they lost 2-1 away to Queen of the South. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 35 and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. COVE RANGERS drew again 0-0 at home to Kelty Hearts and picked up their fourth blank of the season. 

In League Two EAST FIFE are joint top this week after they lost their 5th league game 1-0 away to the other joint leaders PETERHEAD. After a run of 5 league/cup games, Fife have picked up their fourth blank of the season. Peterhead are on a total of 35 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. CLYDE lost 3-2 away to The Spartans and are on a total of 28 goals.

Our worst performing team is ROSS COUNTY this weekend as they have had a total of 10th blank score sheet from 22 league/cup games. They have a total of 23 goals. 

Our highest goal-scoring teams in our 42nd Season are MANCHESTER UNITED after they won 7-0 at home to BARNSLEY in the Carabao/League Cup 3rd Round in Week Seven. DUNDEE won 7-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish League Cup in the very first game in the first round group stages.

JED WEARDEN has moved back to the top on goal difference, for the second time this season. Jed picked up a total of 10 goals from the week and his teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Peterborough. Barbara Barnes (2) moves back down to second place as her teams picked up a total of 7 goals from the week. Barbara’s teams are Celtic, Falkirk and Manchester United.

At the other end at 114 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY with his fifth consecutive weekend. Charlie’s teams picked up just 3 goals this weekend. His teams are Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.

Leeds Take Control

In the Championship, LEEDS UNITED are back on top, at the moment, after they won 3-1 at home to MIDDLESBROUGH. Leeds are now on a total of 36 goals while Brough are on 37. BURNLEY could of moved second place, but they remain in third place after they drew 0-0 at home to Derby County. That is their eighth blank of the season after a goal run of 5 league games. LUTON TOWN won their sixth league game after they won 2-1 at home against Stoke City. Luton are on a total of 24 goals. SWANSEA CITY won 2-1 away to Plymouth and are on a total of 24 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. PORTSMOUTH drew 0-0 at home to NORWICH CITY and picked up their seventh blank score sheet. Norwich also picked up their seventh blank score sheet and now 2 in a row.
