Week Twenty

 

In Week Twenty of the competition, it’s half time here at Golden Goals.  So we have another 20+ weeks to get through before we know who will be our 42nd Champion. We had just one winner to take the full Weekend Prize Money of £5.  They were MARTIN CORBETT which now means that we have had a total of 22 winners. Martin won on a score of 15 goals,

Martin started with Golden Goals in the 2017/18 Season, which is our biggest season to date, on where he finished in 128th place with a total of 239 goals. He also picked up one weekend win that season. Last season he finished in 56th place with 293 goals. This season  we can see Martin at his highest position to date and this weekend with his personal best score. He has had 3 blank weekend score sheets and Liverpool is his best team., Martin’s winning teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Most of us managed to pick up some goals during midweek, so the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has changed again from last week. The highest score went to ANNE HAMMOND with 9 goals. They came from Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Tottenham.

Still out in front this week we have ALFIE DIMMOCK now with a total of 44 goals. His teams are Arsenal, Bolton and Leeds United. In second place we still have BARBARA BARNES (2) now with a total of 43 goals. In third place jumping straight in, we have MARTIN CORBETT with a total of 41 goals. In fourth place down from three we have DAVID BARRETT still on a total of 39 goals. In fifth place we have back in, PHIL COLLINS and RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 joint Champion, moves down from four. Both with a total of 38 goals.   

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 6 of our teams without a game this weekend and another 12 of teams that failed to score any goals. Despite some of our top teams not performing well over the weekend we really had a good weekend. The average score this weekend, moved up from last weeks five, to 6 goals. So if you have done better than that? Well done. The highest score over the weekend was 6 goals once again and they came from the Premier League LIVERPOOL after they won 6-3 away to Tottenham.

Liverpool became our most voted team in our very first season back in 1983/84. In that season they finished on a total of 103 goals. Their biggest end of season score came in 1985/86 with 127 goals. Last season they finished on a total of 113. Liverpool have hit 100 or more goals in 8 of their 42 season’s to date. Over the years they have netted a total of 3,544 goals which gives them an average score of 84.3 goals per season. This season they have a total of 46 votes and have only picked up one weekend blank score sheet. Here are the weekend results. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table LIVERPOOL picked up their biggest result of the season as they win 6-3 away to TOTTENHAM. Liverpool have taken their goals total to 47 and have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. Tottenham are now on a total of 47 goals. CHELSEA are still in second place after they drew 0-0 away to Everton. Chelsea after a goal run of 7 league/cup games, picked up their third blank of the season. In third place we still have ARSENAL who won 5-1 away  to CRYSTAL PALACE and have taken their goals total up to 45 goals. Palace are on 28 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. ASTON VILLA won 2-1 at home to MANCHESTER CITY and are on a total of 29 goals. City hit goal number 32. IPSWICH TOWN lost 4-0 at home to NEWCASTLE. Ipswich picked up their sixth blank of the season. Newcastle have had a good week and are now on a total of 34 goals and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. WEST HAM drew 1-1 at home to Brighton and are on a total of 24 goals. They have now extended their goal run to 6 league/cup games. MANCHESTER UNITED lost 3-0 at home to AFC BOURNEMOUTH and that was their sixth blank of the season. Bournemouth are now on a total of 28 goals and now have a goal run of 10 league/cup games. Bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON drew 0-0 away to Fulham and that is their eighth blank of the season. LEICESTER CITY lost 3-0 at home to Wolves and picked up their fourth blank and now 2 games in a row without a goal. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

SHEFFIELD UNITED are still on top after they won 2-0 away to Cardiff City, and are on a total of 36 goals and have now scored in all of their last 11 league/cup games. LEEDS UNITED are still in second place after they won 4-0 at home to OXFORD UNITED. Leeds are now on a total of 41 goals while Oxford picked up their seventh blank of the season. SWANSEA CITY lost 2-1 away to Hull City and are on a total of 27 goals. They have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. PORTSMOUTH picked up their biggest result of the season after they won 4-1 at home to Coventry City and are now on a total of 25 goals. BURNLEY won 2-1 at home to Watford and are on a total of 28 goals. After they had failed to score in their last 3 games, MILLWALL won 1-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers and are on a total of 22 goals. MIDDLESBROUGH drew 3-3 away to Plymouth and are now on a total of 41 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. PRESTON NE lost 2-1 away to QPR and picked up goal number 30 and have a goal run of 5 league/cup games. NORWICH CITY lost 2-0 away to Sunderland and are on a total of 41 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

Birmingham City are still in second place even though they had now game over the weekend. WREXHAM drew 1-1 away to Bristol Rovers and picked up goal number 33 and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. BARNSLEY lost 4-0 at home to Leyton Orient and have now picked up a total of 7 blank score sheets. BLACKPOOL after a goal run of 5 games, picked up their sixth blank of the season after they drew 0-0 at home to Stevenage. After they had failed to score in their last 2 games, CHARLTON picked up their biggest result to date as they win 5-0 away to Northampton. Charlton are now on a total of 31 goals. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we now have in this league is DONCASTER ROVERS in third place. They won 3-1 at home to Tranmere Rovers and have taken their goals tally up to 36 goals. It’s 40 goals for CHESTERFIELD after they won 1-0 at home to AFC WIMBLEDON. After a goal run of 5 games, Wimbledon picked up their eighth blank of the season. BROMLEY won 2-0 away to Morecambe and are on a total of 32 goals. MK DONS lost 6-3 away to Newport County and are now on a total of 33 goals. NOTTS COUNTY won 3-0 at home to Bradford City and they are now on a total of 39 goals. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES 

In the Premiership, CELTIC remained top this week after they drew their second league game 0-0 away to Dundee Utd. After a goal run of 19 league/cup games, Celtic have picked up their first blank of the season. RANGERS have moved into second place after they won 1-0 at home to DUNDEE. Rangers are on a total of 38 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. Dundee picked up their fifth blank of the season and now 2 games in a row. ROSS COUNTY lost 2-1 at home to St Mirren and are on a total of 24 goals. HEARTS won 2-1 at home to St Johnstone and are on a total of 20 goals. 

In the Championship, top of the table FALKIRK won 1-0 at home to Hamilton. Falkirk are on a total of 52 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. 

In League One, STENHOUSEMUIR lost 1-0 at home to Inverness CT. Stenhousemuir after a goal run of 6 games, picked up their tenth blank of the season. COVE RANGERS won 2-0 at home to Alloa and are on a total of 31 goals. 

In League Two PETERHEAD are now top after they won 2-0 at home to Bonnyrigg Rose and are on a total of 38 goals. Peterhead have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. EAST FIFE are second this week after they won 5-1 at home to The Spartans. Fife have taken their goals tally to 43 goals. CLYDE won 2-0 at home to Forfar and are on a total of 32 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. 

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are 

 IPSWICH (18) KILMARNOCK (19) HEARTS (20) Total of 57 goals 

Our best performing team this weekend are LIVERPOOL after they have now scored in all of their last 15 league/cup games. They have a total of 47 goals which gives them an average score of 2.4 goals per game. 

Our worst performing team is STENHOUSEMUIR this weekend as they have had a total of 10th blank score sheet from 23 league/cup games. They have a total of 35 goals. 

Our highest goal-scoring teams in our 42nd Season are MANCHESTER UNITED after they won 7-0 at home to BARNSLEY in the Carabao/League Cup 3rd Round in Week Seven. DUNDEE won 7-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish League Cup in the very first game in the first round group stages. JED WEARDEN has remained at the top for the second weekend and now three over the season. Jed picked up a total of 9 goals from the week and his teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Peterborough. Geoff Dockerill our 1994/95 Champion, has moved up to second place, as his teams picked up a total of 16 goals from the week. Geoff’s teams are Arsenal, Celtic, and Liverpool.

At the other end at 114 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY with his sixth consecutive weekend. Charlie’s teams picked up just 2 goals this weekend. His teams are Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.
