Week Nineteen

 

In Week Nineteen of the competition we had another 2 players to share the Weekend Prize Money of £5 once again. They are GEOFF CARTHY and STUART KEMP (2) which now means that we have had a total of 21 winners as one of them have already won some cash this season. Both won on a score of 11 goals,

It is Geoff that has won twice now this season. The last time was in Week Fourteen on 11 goals. With another 11 goals, this is still his personal best weekend score. Geoff has just picked up 2 blank weekend score sheets. Celtic is still his best team.

Stuart won with his second combination and he started with Golden Goals back in the 2012/13 our 30th season and finished on a score of 251 goals in 64th place. Stuart for a while now, have had 2 combinations. Last season his first one finished in 87th place with 276 goals while his second finished in 73rd place with 283 goals. This season his second this weekend, is his highest to date. This is his personal best weekend score and he has picked up a total of 3 blank weekend score sheets. Peterborough is his best team. 100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

Under half of us managed to pick up some goals during midweek, so the race for the 100 Midweek Goals Jackpot has changed again from last weeks leaders. The highest score went to VINCENT CRUICKSHANK and ANN WELLARD with 4 goals each.  

Still out in front this week we have ALFIE DIMMOCK up from three with a total of 41 goals. His teams are  Arsenal, Bolton and Leeds United. BARBARA BARNES (2) moves down to second place still with that total of 40 goals. In third place down from two we have DAVID BARRETT on a total of 39 goals. In fourth place we still have RICKY WOOD our 2007/08 joint Champion now with a total of 38 goals. In fifth place we have KEAMUS SETNA our 2005/06 Champion and MARK UNSTEAD both on a total of 37 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS

We had 4 of our teams without a game this weekend and another 14 of teams that failed to score any goals. The week has not really been kind to us. The average score this weekend, remains as last weekend score of just 5 goals. So if you have done better than that? Well done.

The highest score over the weekend was 5 goals and they came from  the Premier League TOTTENHAM who won 5-0 away to bottom of the table SOUTHAMPTON. With their highest score of the season, Tottenham have taken their goals tally up to 40 goals. Southampton picked up their seventh blank of the season and 2 in a row.

Tottenham became our 10th English team to join Golden Goals back in our very first season of 1983/84. In the first season they netted a total of 71 goals. Their highest score of 109 goals were reached in the 1986/87 and 2016/17 seasons. Last season they finished on a total of 76 goals. This is their 41st season with Golden Goals and over the years they have netted a total of 3032 goals which gives them an average score of 73.9 goals per season to date. This season they have picked up a total of 3 blank weekend score sheets and they have a total of 7 votes this season. Here are the weekend results. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

Top of the table LIVERPOOL drew 2-2 at home against Fulham. Liverpool are on a total of 39 goals and have now scored in all of their last 13 league/cup games. CHELSEA are still in second place after they won 2-1 at home to Brentford. Chelsea are on a total of 42 goals and they have now scored in all of their 7 league/cup games. In third place, after they had scored in all of their last 5 games, ARSENAL drew 0-0 at home to Everton and picked up their third blank of the season. In the Manchester derby, MANCHESTER CITY lost their fifth league game, 2-1 at home to MANCHESTER UNITED. City are on a total of 31 goals while United are on 33. CRYSTAL PALACE won 3-1 away to Brighton and are now on a total of 25 goals, and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. NEWCASTLE picked up their biggest result of the season after they won 4-0 at home to LEIESTER CITY.  Newcastle have taken their goals tally to 27 goals while Leicester picked up their third blank of the season. IPSWICH TOWN won 2-1 away to Wolves and are on a total of 18 goals. ASTON VILLA lost 2-1 away to Nottingham Forest and picked up gaol number 27. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

SHEFFIELD UNITED are still on top after they won 2-0 at home to Plymouth and are on a total of 34 goals and have now scored in all of their last 10 league/cup games. LEEDS UNITED are in second place after they drew 1-1 away to PRESTON NE. Leeds are on a total of 37 goals while Preston hit goal number 29. LUTON TOWN lost 2-0 away to Blackburn and picked up their fifth blank of the season. MIDDLESBROUGH won 1-0 at home to MILLWALL and are on a total of 38 goals. Millwall picked up their tird consecutive blank score sheet and now 8 over the season. OXFORD UNITED lost 3-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday and are on a total of 23 goals. SWANSEA CITY lost 3-2 at home to Sunderland and are on a total of 26 goals and a goal run of 6 league/cup games. NORWICH CITY lost 2-1 at home to BURNLEY and are on a total of 40 goals. Burnley are on 26 goals. 

LEAGUE ONE

BIRMINGHAM CITY are now in second place after they won 2-0 at home to Bristol Rovers and are on a total of 38 goals and have a goal run of 11 league/cup games. BOLTON lost 2-0 at home to Wigan and picked up their seventh blank of the season. CHARLTON drew 0-0 at home to Mansfield Town and that is their sixth blank of the season and now 2 blanks in a row. BARNSLEY won 2-1 at home to Exeter City and are on a total of 34 goals. HUDDERSFIELD drew 2-2 at home to Lincoln City and are on a total of 37 goals. PETERBOROUGH won 4-2 at home against Crawley Town and are now on a total of 45 goals. BLACKPOOL won 3-0 away to Reading and are now on a total of 41 goals and they have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. WREXHAM drew 2-2 at home to Cambridge United and are on a total of 32 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. 

LEAGUE TWO

The highest team that we now have in this league is AFC WIMBLEDON in fourth place. They won 1-0 at home to DONCASTER ROVERS and are on a total of 38 goals and have now scored in all of their last 5 league/cup games. Rovers picked up their sixth blank of the season. NOTTS COUNTY lost 3-0 away to Salford City and that is their sixth blank of the season. BROMLEY drew 0-0 at home to Port Vale and have now had a total of 3 blank score sheets after a goal run of 10 league/cup games. CHESTERFIELD won 2-0 away to Carlisle United and are on a total of 39 goals. MK DONS lost 1-0 at home to Gillingham and picked up their seventh blank score sheet. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES 

Scottish League Cup Final

It was yet another cup final of the old firm teams CELTIC and RANGERS. The score was 3-3 after the full 90 minutes and that remained 3-3 after extra time. Celtic then won 5-4 on penalties. Celtic are now on a total of 61 goals and keep their 100% scoring record after a total of 19 league/cup games. Rangers are now on a total of 37 goals and have now scored in all of their last 9 league/cup games. 

In the Premiership, Celtic remain top even though they had no league game this week. ROSS COUNTY lost 3-1 away to Hibernian and are on a total of 23 goals. KILMARNOCK won 1-0 at home to HEARTS and are on a total of 18 goals. Hearts picked up their picked up their sixth blank of the season. 

In the Championship, top of the table FALKIRK lost their third league game, 5-2 away to Ayr Utd. Falkirk are on a total of 51 goals. 

In League One, STENHOUSEMUIR move down to second place after they lost 2-1 away to Queen of the South. Stenhousemuir are on a total of 35 and have now scored in all of their last 6 league/cup games. COVE RANGERS drew again 0-0 at home to Kelty Hearts and picked up their fourth blank of the season. 

In League Two EAST FIFE are joint top this week after they lost their 5th league game 1-0 away to the other joint leaders PETERHEAD. After a run of 5 league/cup games, Fife have picked up their fourth blank of the season. Peterhead are on a total of 35 goals and have now scored in all of their last 7 league/cup games. CLYDE lost 3-2 away to The Spartans and are on a total of 28 goals.

Our BEST three teams this week

Our WORST three teams are 

 IPSWICH (18) KILMARNOCK (18) HEARTS (18) Total of 54 goals

 Our best performing team is CELTIC after they have now scored in all of their last 19 league/cup games. They have a total of 61 goals which gives them an average score of 3.2 goals per game.

Our worst performing team is ROSS COUNTY this weekend as they have had a total of 10th blank score sheet from 22 league/cup games. They have a total of 23 goals. 

Our highest goal-scoring teams in our 42nd Season are MANCHESTER UNITED after they won 7-0 at home to BARNSLEY in the Carabao/League Cup 3rd Round in Week Seven. DUNDEE won 7-1 away to Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish League Cup in the very first game in the first round group stages.

JED WEARDEN has moved back to the top on goal difference, for the second time this season. Jed picked up a total of 10 goals from the week and his teams are Celtic, Liverpool and Peterborough. Barbara Barnes (2) moves back down to second place as her teams picked up a total of 7 goals from the week. Barbara’s teams are Celtic, Falkirk and Manchester United.

At the other end at 114 we still have CHARLIE FARLEY with his fifth consecutive weekend. Charlie’s teams picked up just 3 goals this weekend. His teams are Kilmarnock, Ross County and Stenhousemuir.
