Week Twenty

In Week Twenty of the competition we had our twenty-third winner of the season winning on a total of 11 goals.  Our winner picks up the full £6 cash prize money and they are The SAINT (Geoff Carthy with his second combo)
Geoff has been with Golden Goals for a very, very long time. He started back in the 1986/87 Season on where he finished in 36th place out of 41 starters with a total of 201 goals.He had a shared weekend win of 50 pence. Last season he finished just out side of the winning frame in 30th place with 312 goals. With his second combination, the highest that it’s been is 59th place in Week One. He has picked up a total of three blank score sheets and this is his personal best score. Although he has been bottom for the past fourteen weeks, It’s great to know that you can be rock bottom but still win cash. His team’s are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT
Just over half of us picked up some more goals this week and the race for the cash has remained the same this week. It was JULIA WOOD who picked up the highest midweek score with five goals to take her midweek goals total up to 35. The goals came from Arsenal three and Preston two. Manchester United is her third team.
This week we still have COLIN WEBB (2) who’s lead is still just one goal as he takes his total up to 51 goals. In second place now on 50 goals we still have PATRICK O’DONAGHUE. In third place we still have ANDY EYLES now with a total of 49 goals. In fourth place we still have PHIL REEVE with 47 goals. In fifth place both with 45 goals we still have TOBY BICKNELL but TONY GUY (4) has moved back in.

WEEKEND RESULTS
It makes a change that all of our teams were in action over the weekend but fourteen of them failed to score any goals. So the weekends average score rose from four goals last weekend to 6 goals this weekend, even though we all once picked up some goals.
The highest score that we had was five goals and they came from the Championship, where BARNSLEY won 5-3 at home against QUEENS PARK RANGERS. That is only their third league win in twenty-two games. With their highest result of the season to date, Barnsley are now on  a total of 29 goals. Rangers are now on 38 goals.
Barnsley started with Golden Goals back in the 1998/99 Season in which they became our 91st English team to join in. In that season they finished on a total of 79 goals. Their highest score came last season with a total of 89 goals. Barnsley are in their seventh Season with us and over the years they have netted a total of 448 goals to date. That gives them a average score of 64 goals per season. This season they have just two votes and they have picked up a total of seven blank score sheets in twenty-three games played.

PREMIER LEAGUE
Champions LIVERPOOL have now won their sixteenth league game out of seventeen as they win 2-0 at home to Watford. Liverpool have kept their 100% scoring record in tack as they chalk up nineteenth consecutive game. Liverpool are now on a total of 49 goals and now ten points clear of LEICESTER CITY in second place. Leicester drew 1-1 at home to Norwich. City are now on a total of 48 goals and they have now scored in all of their last fourteen games. MANCHESTER CITY have remain in third place after they won 3-0 away to ARSENAL. City have taken their goals total up to 53 goals and they have now scored in all of their last ten games. Arsenal picked up their third blank of the season. CHELSEA are still in fourth place after they lost 1-0 at home to Bournemouth. That is their third blank score sheet. TOTTENHAM are now in fifth place after they won 2-1 away to WOLVES. Tottenham are now on 32 goals and have now scored in all of their last nine games. Wolves picked up goal number 26 and they have now scored in all of their last eighteen games. MANCHESTER UNITED drew 1-1 at home to EVERTON after going a goal down in the first half. United are now on 29 goals while Everton are on 28. SHEFFIELD UNITED are now on 23 goals after they won 2-0 at home against ASTON VILLA. Villa picked up their fourth blank of the season. NEWCASTLE picked up their sixth blank score sheet of the season after they lost 1-0 away to Burnley WEST HAM won 1-0 away to Southampton and that is goal number 21 for them.

CHAMPIONSHIP
Who is top this week, well it’s WEST BROM once again after they won 3-2 away to BIRMINGHAM. West Brom have taken their goals tally to 46 and they have now scored in all of their last twelve games. Birmingham are now on 24 goals. LEEDS UNITED are in second place after they drew 3-3 at home to CARDIFF after going three goals up. Leeds are now on 40 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eight games. Cardiff are now on 34 goals. PRESTON have moved up to third place after they won 2-1 at home to LUTON. Preston are now on a total of 41 goals while Luton hit goal number 34. BRENTFORD are now in fourth place as they win 1-0 at home to put FULHAM down in sixth place. Brentford are now on 34 goals while Fulham picked up their sixth blank of the season. BLACKBURN ROVERS won 2-0 at away to Bristol City and they are now on a total of 34 goals and they have now scored in all of their last nine games.SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are now on 34 goals after they won 4-0 away to NOTTINGHAM FOREST who picked up their fifth blank score sheet. DERBY lost 1-0 at home to Millwall and that is their ninth blank of the season. STOKE picked up their eighth blank score sheet after they drew 0-0 at home to Reading. MIDDLESBROUGH lost 3-1 away to Swansea but they are now on 21 goals. HUDDERSFIELD drew 1-1 away to Wigan and that is their 24th goal of the season.

LEAGUE ONE
IPSWICH are our highest team here in second place after they lost 2-1 at home to Bristol Rovers. Ipswich are now on 34 goals. PETERBOROUGH are still in third place as they won 1-0 at home to bottom of the table Bolton. Borough are now on 49 goals. BLACKPOOL are down to fifth place after they drew 1-1 away to SUNDERLAND. Blackpool are now on 39 goals while Sunderland hit goal number 34. DONCASTER are now on 29 goals as they lost 2-1 away to AFC Wimbledon. It’s 30 goals for ACCRINGTON STANLEY after they won 4-1 at home to PORTSMOUTH who are now on 38 goals. LINCOLN CITY won 1-0 at home to Tranmere and they are now on 25 goals. MK DONS won their fifth league game with a 1-0 at home to Oxford Utd. The Dons are now on 23 goals. SOUTHEND drew 2-2 at home to ROTHERHAM. Southend are now on a total of 25 goals to Rotherhams 43.

LEAGUE TWO
BRADFORD CITY are our highest here in fifth place after they drew 0-0 away to LEYTON ORIENT. Bradford picked up their fifth blank score sheet to Orients seventh. FOREST GREEN ROVERS are down to sixth place after they lost 1-0 away to Northampton. Rovers picked up their eleventh blank of the season and now three in a row. It’s 30 goals for MANSFIELD after they drew 1-1 away to Crewe. PLYMOUTH won 3-0 at home to bottom of the table Morecambe and they are now on 36 goals. SALFORD CITY lost 1-0 at home to Exeter and that is their ninth blank and now three in a row. SCUNTHORPE are now on 30 goals as they drew 2-2 at home to Colchester. OLDHAM picked up their ninth blank score sheet of the season after they lost 2-0 away to Swindon.

SCOTTISH RESULTS
In the Premiership, CELTIC won 2-0 at home against Hibernian and they are now on a total of 61 goals and have now extended their goal run to ten games. RANGERS are now two points behind Celtic as they win 2-0 away to Motherwell and they are now on 54 goals. HEARTS lost again 1-0 at home to St Johnstone and that is their tenth blank score sheet and now two in a row and just one goal in their last five games.
In League One, RAITH ROVERS are still on top as they drew 1-1 away to FALKIRK. Rovers are now on a total of 36 goals while Falkirk are on 38 and down to fourth place in the league. PETERHEAD lost 2-1 away to Airdrie and they are now on a total of 23 goals. 
In League Two, COVE RANGERS won 2-1 at home to STENHOUSEMUIRE. Rangers are still top here with a total of 48 goals while Stenhousemuir are now on 22 goals.

Our Best team is LIVERPOOL this week after they still have a 100% scoring record after nineteen games. They have a total of 49 goals which gives them an average score of 2.5 goals per game.

Our worst team this week is FOREST GREEN ROVERS. They have picked up a total of eleven blank score sheets in twenty-six games played. Rovers have now failed to score in their last three games. They have a total of 30 goals.

Our highest goal scorers in our 37th Season is LEICESTER CITY from Week Thirteen as the beat Southampton 9-0 away in the league.  

MIKE LIDDLE has remained at the top for his third weekend in a row after he picked up a total of six goals all coming from the weekend. Mike has now been at the top for four weeks over the season. Mike’s combination is Celtic, Manchester City and Peterborough and is now joint top with  Bradley Clark who has remain in second place. Bradley picked up a total of seven goals over the weekend. Bradley has the combination of Celtic, Liverpool and Manchester City.  
At the other end at 123 we have The SAINT with his fourteenth consecutive weekend there. The Saint picked up two goals in midweek and another eleven goals at the weekend.  He has Barnsley, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.

It's half-time here at Golden Goals and although the table is settling down just a bit, here is how the top ten looks this weekend.
