Week Eight

Here we are with Week eight of the competition and we had our eighth winner of the season, winning on the lowest score of the season with just 8 goals. That player was STEVE AYRES who picks up the full £6 this weekend. Steve has been with Golden Goals since the 29th Season 2011/12. In that season, Steve finished in 97th place with a total of 237 goals. Steve finished in the winning frame in the 2018/19 Season in 11th place with 322 goals. Last season he finished in 76th place with a total of 261 goals. This season, Steve has been as high as 8th place in Week One. He has picked up just one blank score sheet to date. His best team is Celtic. His teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT

We had a total of four players that picked up the most number of goals this week with five each. There is a little change in the race for the cash as LOUIE HARRINGTON remains in front with a total of 32 goals. His combo are Celtic, Chelsea and Liverpool. In second place this week we have LINDA ADKINS with PAUL MORAN (Mango) and BOB SAWYER both up from four all with a total of 31 goals. In third place we still have BRADLEY CLARK and RICKY MILES but they are now joined with JED WEARDEN up from five all with a total of 30 goals each. In fourth place we still have MARK JOHNSTON, GRANT PHILLIPS and coming back in the race we have RAYMOND HARROD and MICK LIDDLE all have a total of 29 goals. In fifth place we still have KAREN SMITH, BOB SOPER, STEVE STUBBS and now with HAYLEY ADKINS and (ME) Steve Reeve all on 28 goals.  

WEEKEND RESULTS

This weekend we had eleven of our teams without a game over the weekend with another eight that failed to score any goals. All but two players managed to pick up some goals from our combo’s. With another full league fixture, the average score for this weekend was only 5 goals. The Highest score over the weekend was four goals and they went to Scottish Premiership where MOTHERWELL picked up their highest result of the season as they win 4-0 at home to Ross County. It’s nice to see Motherwell back in action and they are now on a total of 11 goals and they have now scored in all of their last four games.  Motherwell became our 7th voted Scottish team and they started with us back in the 1984/85 Season on where they finished on their highest end of season score of 73 goals. The last time that they were in was back in the 2002/03 Season with 58 goals. This is their fourth season with us and they have now netted a total of 198 goals which gives them an average score of 49.5 goals per season. They have just one vote this season. 

PREMIER LEAGUE

EVERTON have remained top of the Premier League after they lost 2-0 away to Southampton. Everton after a goal run of eight games, picked up their first blank score sheet. LIVERPOOL have moved up to second place after they won 2-1 at home to Sheffield United when they went a goal down. Liverpool are now on a total of 22 goals. Aston Villa are down to third place after their defeat against Leeds United on Friday night. LEICESTER CITY in still fourth place as they win 1-0 away to ARSENAL. After a tow game dry spell, Leicester are now on a total of 13 goals. Arsenal picked up their third blank score sheet and now two in a row. WOLVES are now on 6 goals after they drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle. MANCHESTER UNITED drew 0-0 at home to CHELSEA to pick up their first blank score sheet after a goal run of six games. Chelsea picked up their second. FULHAM lost 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace and they are now on 8 goals and bottom of the league. WEST HAM drew 1-1 at home to MANCHESTER CITY. West Ham have now scored in all of their last eight games and are now on a total of 21 goals, while City keep their 100% goal run of seven games with a total of 13 goals. 

CHAMPIONSHIP

READING are back on top here after they won 3-0 at home against ROTHERHAM. Reading have taken their goals tally up to 14 goals this week while Rotherham picked up their second blank score sheet. BRISTOL CITY drop down to second place after they drew 1-1 at home to SWANSEA. City are now on 17 goals while Swansea hit goal number eight. WATFORD have moved up to fourth place after they drew 1-1 at home to BOURNEMOUTH now in fifth place. Watford are now on a total of 9 goals with Bournemouth now on 11 goals. CARDIFF drew 1-1 at home to MIDDLESBROUGH and they are now on 6 goals with Brough on 10. PRESTON won 2-1 away to Huddersfield and they are now on 16 goals. NORWICH are now on 9 goals after they won 2-1 at home against Wycombe. BIRMINGHAM drew 0-0 away to QPR and that is their fifth blank score sheet and now three in a row. LUTON won 1-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday and they are now on a total of 10 goals after a tow game dry spell for goals. STOKE won 3-2 at home to BRENTFORD with their biggest result of the season, Stoke are now on a total of 12 and they have now scored in all of their seven games. Brentford are now on a total of 20 goals and a goal run of nine games. 

LEAGUE ONE

LINCOLN CITY are back on top after they beat leaders Ipswich Town 1-0 at home. City are now on a total of 22 goals. HULL are still in second place after they lost 2-1 at home to PETERBOROUGH. Hull are now on 14 goals and they have now scored in all of their last ten games. Borough are in third place on a total of 12 goals and have scored in all of their last five games. CREWE won 2-1 away to Doncaster and that now gives them a total of 9 goals. After a two game dry spell, FLETWOOD TOWN are now on 17 goals as they win 2-0 away to Gillingham. It’s 10 for CHARLTON as they win 2-0 away to Northampton. PORTSMOUTH won 3-1 away to SUNDERLAND which takes their goals tally up to 15 goals. Sunderland are now on 8 goals. After a three game dry spell, WIGAN are now on 8 goals as they drew 1-1 at home to PLYMOUTH who are now on 16 goals.  

LEAGUE TWO

CHELTENHAM are our highest team here still in third place after they drew 0-0 at home to Mansfield. That brought an end to their 100% scoring record after nine games with their first blank of the season. BOLTON drew 1-1 away to Cambridge Utd and that was their 8th goal of the season. HARROGATE TOWN lost 2-1 away to Colchester and that is goal number 11 and it’s now four goals in their last four games. After a two game dry spell, SCUNTHORPE hit goal number five after they lost 3-1 away to EXETER. Exeter are now on a total of 13 goals with their biggest result of the season. SALFORD CITY drew 1-1 at home to Crawley and they are now on a total of 13 goals. After a two game dry spell, TRANMERE are now on 7 goals after they won 2-0 at home to SOUTHEND. Southend still bottom of the table picked up their sixth blank and now three in a row. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES

In the Premiership, RANGERS won 2-0 at home to Livingston and they are now on a total of 28 goals and a goal run of eight games. They are now six points clear of rivals CELTIC as they drew 3-3 away to ABERDEEN. Celtic are also on 28 goals while Aberdeen are now on 17.

In League One, with their second league games, COVE RANGERS are top after they won 2-0 away to Peterhead. Rangers are now on a total of 8 goals and a goal run of four. In second place is FALKIRK after they drew 1-1 at home to Forfar and they are now on 9 goals.

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR moved up to third place as they drew 2-2 at home to Stirling. Stenhousemuir are now on a total of 7 goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week with Golden Goals. They are

OUR WORST THREE TEAMS ARE

Our Best team is MANCHESTER CITY after scoring in all of their seven of their league games keeping their 100% record with a total of 13 goals. They are on an average score of 1.8 goals per game. 

Our worst team this weekend is BIRMINGHAM who have scored just three goals in their eight games played. 

SOUTHEND have picked up the most number of blank score sheets with six out of nine games played. 

Our highest goal scorers in our 38th Season are ASTON VILLA as they win 7-2 home against Champions LIVERPOOL in the league in Week Five and LIVERPOOL , they won 7-2 away to LINCOLN CITY in the Carabao Cup in Round Three from Week Four. 

LINDA ADKINS has remained top again this weekend for a fifth consecutive weekend. Linda did not have any of her teams in action during midweek once again but she did pick up six goals from the weekend. Linda’s teams are Celtic, Liverpool and West Ham. Linda is now one goal in front of Jed Wearden who has moved into second place on goal difference.

At the other end at 116 we now have Jacqui Rattle who becomes our sixth player to stay there. Jacqui picked up three goals from the week with her teams of  Arsenal, Manchester City and Wolves.
