Week Seven

Here we are with Week Seven of the competition and we had our first Rollover of the season of £12 and that was split between BARBARA BARNES (2) and ROBERT FULLER. That means that we have now had a total of seven winners this season and they won on the lowest score to date with just 9 goals each.

 Barbara have been with Golden Goals for a very long while and we thank her for all the support over the years. Last season Barbara finished in the winning frame in fifth place with a total of 318 goals. This week we see Barbara’s second combo at her highest position so far. She has picked up two blank score sheets. Robert is new to the competition and we thank him for joining in this season in such troubled times. Robert seems to be going the right way now as he was at number 116 in Week two. He has also picked up two blank score sheets and this is his highest to date. Our winners teams are

100 MIDWEEK GOALS JACKPOT 

It was RYAN FC that picked up the most number of goals this week with nine. They all came from Hearts two cup games. Their other teams are Portsmouth and Sunderland. There is no change in the race for the cash as LOUIE HARRINGTON remains in front with a total of 32 goals. His combo are Celtic, Chelsea and Liverpool. In second place we have LINDA ADKINS with a total of 31 goals. In third place we have BRADLEY CLARK and RICKY MILES both with a total of 30 goals each. In fourth place we have MARK JOHNSTON, PAUL MORAN (Mango), GRANT PHILLIPS and BOB SAWYER all have a total of 29 goals. In fifth place we have KAREN SMITH, BOB SOPER, STEVE STUBBS and JED WEARDEN all on 28 goals. 

WEEKEND RESULTS  

This weekend we had nine of our teams without a game over the weekend with another twenty-one that failed to score any goals. But we all managed to pick up some goals from our combo’s. With our first full league fixture of the season, the average score for this weekend was only 4 goals. The Highest score over the weekend was four goals and they went to Premier League MANCHESTER UNITED as they beat Newcastle 4-1 away. United with their biggest result of the season, are now on a total of 15 goals and they have now scored in all of their six games played. Manchester United have been in all of our 38 Season’s and in our very first in 1983/84, United finished on a total of 79 goals and was our fourth most voted team. Their highest end of season score came in the 1993/94 Season with 117 goals. Last season they finished on a total of 87. Over the years they have scored a total of 3189 goals which gives them an average score of 83 goals per season. They have twelve votes this season. 

PREMIER LEAGUE 

EVERTON are now top of the Premier League after they drew 2-2 at home against Champions LIVERPOOL. Everton have kept their 100% scoring record going after eight games and they are now on a total of 26 goals. Liverpool are in third place with a total of 20 goals. ASTON VILLA are in second place after they won 1-0 away to LEICESTER CITY in fourth place. As Villa picked up their 18th goal of the season Leicester picked up their third blank score sheet and now two in a row. ARSENAL lost 1-0 away to MANCHESTER CITY to pick up their second blank of the season while City picked up their 12th goal of the season. BRIGHTON drew 1-1 away to Crystal Palace and they are now on 15 goals. After a dry spell of three games, FULHAM are now on a total of 7 goals as they drew 1-1 away to Sheffield United. It’s 20 goals for CHELSEA as they drew 3-3 at home to Southampton. TOTTENHAM drew 3-3 at home against London rivals WEST HAM, after going three goals up by half time. Tottenham are now on a total of 16 while West Ham are now on 20 goals and they have now scored in all of their last seven games. 

CHAMPIONSHIP 

BRISTOL CITY are top here after they drew 2-2 away to Barnsley. Bristol are now on a total of 16 goals. READING are second after they drew 0-0 away to MIDDLESBROUGH. That was Readings second blank and Brough’s third. BOURNEMOUTH are in third place after they drew 0-0 at home to QPR. That is their second blank of the season. BIRMINGHAM picked up their third blank as they lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday. NOTTINGHAM FOREST picked up their second goal of the season as they win 1-0 away to Blackburn Rovers. BRENTFORD won 2-0 at home to Coventry and they are now on a total of 16 goals and they have scored in all of their lasts seven games. STOKE picked up their highest result of the season as they win 2-0 away to LUTON. Stoke are now on 7 goals as Luton picked up their third blank score sheet. ROTHERHAM lost 2-1 away to NORWICH and that is their 5th goal of the season while Norwich are now on 6 goals after a tow game dry spell. SWANSEA are on 6 goals after they lost 2-1 at home to Huddersfield. CARDIFF are now on four goals after they won 1-0 away to PRESTON who picked up their fourth blank score sheet. 

LEAGUE ONE  

Ipswich Town are still at the top this weekend with HULL moving up to second place after they won 3-0 away to Rochdale. With their biggest win of the season, Hull are now on 12 goals and they have now scored in all of their last eight games. LINCOLN CITY have moved down to third place after they drew 0-0 away to FLEETWOOD TOWN. Lincoln after a goal run of eight games, picked up their first blank of the season. Fleetwood picked up their second. After a two game dry spell for goals, CHARLTON are now on 7 as they win 1-0 at home to WIGAN. Wigan picked up their third blank fo the season and now two in a row. CREWE drew 1-1 at home to Blackpool and they are now on a total of 7 goals. ACCRINGTON STANLEY lost to the leaders 2-0 away and that is their first blank of the season after a goal run of six games. PETERBOROUGH picked up another two goals in their 2-0 win at home to OXFORD UNITED. Borough are now on a total of 9 goals. Oxford are now bottom of the league as they picked up their third blank score sheet. PLYMOUTH won 2-1 at home to Northampton and they are now on 15 goals. PORTSMOUTH lost 1-0 at home to Doncaster and that is their fourth blank of the season. SUNDERLAND won 2-0 away to SWINDON and they are now on 6 goals while Swindon picked up their third blank and now two in a row. 

LEAGUE TWO  

CHELTENHAM are our highest team here now in third place after they won 2-0 away to SOUTHEND. Cheltenham are now on a total of 13 goals and they have scored in all of their eight games played. Southend picked up their fourth blank of the season and they are now bottom of the table. BOLTON lost 2-1 at home to Oldham and that is their fourth goal of the season. It’s ten for HARROGATE TOWN as they won 1-0 at home to Barrow. TRANMERE lost 1-0 away to Newport and that is their fourth blank of the season. SALFORD CITY picked up their fourth after they lost 1-0 away to Port vale. SCUNTHORPE lost 5-0 at home to leaders Cambridge Utd to pick up their third blank score sheet. EXETER drew 0-0 away to Walsall and they have now had a total of three blank score sheets. 

SCOTTISH LEAGUES  

In the Premiership, in the old firm game RANGERS beat rivals CELTIC 2-0 away. Rangers are now on a total of 26 goals and they have scored in all of their last seven games. Celtic’s 100% goal run has finally come to the end with their first blank score sheet. ABERDEEN drew 0-0 away to Dundee Utd and that is their third blank of the season. 

In League One, with their first league games, COVE RANGERS won 3-1 at home against East Fife. Rangers with their highest result are now on a total of 6 goals. FALKIRK won 3-1 away to Montrose and they are now on 8 goals. 

In League Two STENHOUSEMUIR picked up their biggest result as they won 3-1 away to Albion. Stenhousemuir are now on a total of five goals. 

Our BEST three teams this week with Golden Goals. They are

OUR WORST THREE TEAMS ARE  

NOTTINGHAM FOREST (2 DERBY (3)) BIRMINGHAM (3) Total of 8 goals  

Our Best team is CHELTENHAM after scoring in all eight of their Cup/League games keeping their 100% record with a total of 13 goals. They are on an average score of 1.6 goals per game. 

Our worst team this weekend is NOTTINGHAM FOREST who have scored just two goals in their six games played.  

MOTHERWELL have picked up the most number of blank score sheets with five out of nine games played.  

Our highest goal scorers in our 38th Season are ASTON VILLA as they win 7-2 home against Champions LIVERPOOL in the league in Week Five and LIVERPOOL , they won 7-2 away to LINCOLN CITY in the Carabao Cup in Round Three from Week Four. 

LINDA ADKINS has remained top again this weekend for a fourth week running. Linda did not have any of her teams in action during midweek but she did pick up five from the weekend. Linda’s teams are Celtic, Liverpool and West Ham. Linda is still on goal difference in front of Louie Harrington who are both moving away from the rest of us.

At the other end at 116 we now have REBECCA HARRINGTON who becomes our fifth player to stay there. Rebecca picked up four goals all coming from the weekend from Brentford, Charlton and Nottingham Forest. 

A slight change in the top ten this weekend.
